I know I shouldn’t feel this way, but it’s learning of horrors like this when my faith in God falters.
Understandably. Several thoughts help me. The first one is that, since God either wills or allows everything, and since He is absolutely good and almighty by nature, then these evils must be allowed by God for the accomplishment of a greater good. As Job correctly noted, who are we to question God? It is times like these when trust is put to the test. Secondly, without the existence of evil, the world would never know virtues like charity, mercy, forgiveness, and courage. Thirdly, and most importantly, there is the Cross. If God is willing to lower himself to human status, and then to suffer an agonizing death, how can we criticize God for indifference to human suffering?
This link may also help. It is the best and most concise treatment of the problem of evil that I've read.
God does not cause these things and He too is upset, crying for her just as we do. And He is always there to care for, to comfort, and to heal.
Ol’slewfoot, Satan is always on the prowl, looking for the soul-less person to recruit and do his dirty work. It seems he finds plenty to recruit!!
“I know I shouldnt feel this way, but its learning of horrors like this when my faith in God falters.”
You’re not alone in that but you shouldn’t. God gave us free will and those that are evil will abuse it.
Also, once heard a sermon on this subject. If good exists then evil also exists. He was much more eloquent than I. Criminals like this make you really question humanity.
