[ I wonder why autism appears to be so difficult to diagnose when it is not that uncommon.]
Good Question. What leads you to believe it’s difficult to diagnose?
Yep.
Yep.
Yep, and then there are those old clips attributed to her from a former career in porn to consider....
Good morning, sailor. Miss anything interesting?
Suggesting that something in her past behavior may have had an impact upon the viability of the offspring produced by the eggs she was carrying?
Surely not. /s
No, but if you are going to blame a failed marriage on a child’s illness, I think its okay to suggest maybe there were other things a bit more ‘problematic’ that caused it to implode.
I feel very sorry for the little boy, and McCarthy as well, to be 100% crystal clear.
But don’t blame your failed marriage on it, at least not in public. Its just a cheap shot at her ex in this context.
“can assure you that parents do not do a happy dance in the doctors office when they get this diagnosis. When the neuropsychologist advised me that my son had severe autism I felt I was punched in the stomach,
Unless you are a parent of an autistic child, please do not speak for us.”
Good for you! I’m sorry you had to go at this alone; I know you are a great mom.
How the HELL ARE YOU?
Freepmail is working fine, Brother.
Welcome home.
[Autism in my estimation is the Polio of the 1950s.]
Polio had a single cause, a virus, and it was irradicated via a vaccine.
The Colorado State professor is Temple Grandin.
Oliver Sacks has some interesting stories in his book “The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat” and Augusten Burroughs brother, who built guitars for KISS and has a luxury automotive service, is autistic.
Will check. In the interim, to confirm identify - sister is a chef, speaks French fluently, doesn’t take any sh** from anyone - and have followed you from board to board over the last decade.

A very, VERY happy CHUCKLE. Damn glad you made it back in one piece my friend.
I see you’ve been informed of my departure from Sally’s kookfest by my anti groupie over at LP.
Poor willie....anyway, its damn glad to ‘read you’ in this forum. Tell Sis I said hello...and when you get a moment bring me up to date on your travels. Email is the same.
Damn, you just made my day!
(btw, at LP you can’t use the term kook.....chuckle)
Hmmm, way beyond my skill set to say for sure.
I just hope the little boy gets the best treatment possible, and despite my view of Ms McCarthy I’m sure she will make that the top priority in her life.
I referring to the folks who seem to think that parents WANT to have an autistic child or even that just a little willpower or discipline will take care of things. You don’t seem to fit into that category.
I’m no autism expert myself.
Yes,
I think the child has autism, but the heart stopping/grand maul ceasure she talks about seems indicative of some other issue or problem, IMHO.
And you are correct all children with Autism present differently and cases can range from very very very mild, to incredibly severe effectively non functional.
Polio had a single cause, a virus, and it was irradicated via a vaccine.
Reply:
Obviously, you did not understand my remark stating that Autism is fast taking the place of Polio as the childhood malady of the new century.
At this time I do not know the cause of autism but evidently you do know for sure that “autism is not caused by some kind of virus”.
On what research or fact do you base that statement?
Can’t use “kook”? But it’s such a perfect fit for so many.
Yeah, war told me you got the boot. I figured you just stood up and yelled “I’ve been thrown out of better boards than this one!”
;)
Maybe. Maybe not. I don’t have any firsthand knowledge of McCarthy’s marriage or the kind of man she was married to. Truth is a lot of people have a weak character. They’re unable to accept life in any way other than what they think it should be. When they have a handicapped child they don’t want to accept the fact that the world doesn’t revolve around them & they’re not so perfect afterall. Of course that was always the case but now they have to accept it or lash out. A diagnosis of autism will generally do one of two things. It will bring a couple together or it will rip a marriage like an industrial shredder. One parent blaming the other is common when the truth is **** happens.
But like I said I don’t know what happened with her husband. If the marriage already had issues, this turned them up to 11. If things were seemingly fine until the diagnosis then it’s probably more likely to be a character issue(or lack thereof) It could be a shot or just the honest truth. This is the kind of thing that brings out the best in people as well as the worst.
