The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Fred Thompson has picked up the endorsement of the Vice-Chairman of Morgan Stanley in Chicago, William Strong. Strong had previously donated to Mitt Romney, but has made the decision to back Fred. He will also host a fundraiser for Fred next Wednesday at the Chicago Club in Chicago.
"William Strong has decided to back Fred Thompson, former U.S. senator from Tennessee and "Law & Order" star, for president.
Strong, vice chairman of Morgan Stanley in Chicago, had been undecided until recently about whom he was going to throw his weight behind. . . . ."

My guess is the big money will finally align behind Giuliani and Thompson. Romney will still get some support and can put up a few more dollars of his own. The rest are out to pasture except Paul who will continue to get support although in smaller amounts... Keyes will drum up a little to share with his fundraising apparutus. jmo.

Rooty just fired his campaign funds mgr. I think he tapped out Kerik’s buddies and is running low on donors.
Romney donations have been drying up too.

Yes, it was just a couple days ago. He/she likely told Rooty there wern’t many Wakers and the Mafia was tapped out, so donations are down.
Rooty threw a fit and blamed it on ferrets I think.

Giuliani will continue to fade. Folks are having Rudy-fatigue, and the cell-phone incident in front of the NRA earned a lot of concern. I suspect he'll fade to the point that Thompson will seize the nomination. If so, Romney will be the best bet for the VP slot: executive government experience, superb private-industry experience, comparatively young and photogenic, good geographic mesh (something close to the old Boston/Austin axis), compatible political views and positions (at least some days, [grin]). It would be a potent match-up.

Of the candidates Romney is probably the better VP option. Giuliani does have national recognition but the rest bring nothing to the ticket as far as enhancing the ticket electability. I still think it could well be someone other than a current candidate much like President Bush did.

Sigh... wouldn't it be nice if you were absolutely correct in a literal sense... "Thompson/Cheney '08" has such a nice ring to it... sigh...

Hah! The Thompson boo-birds think that Fred has been blowing zzzzz's in his tour bus the past couple weeks.
Let me clue them in.......Fred is quietly but efficiently lining up the following (and lasso-ing them in).....state, county, local GOP political leaders in key states......people of influence and stature on local levels, businesspeeples of all kinds, heavy-hitters in the donor department, newspaper editorial boards, school, fire, police leaders, chairmen and members of GOP state committees, GOP women's clubs, precinct committemen, college campus leaders and other organizations of yutes plus GOP volunteer activists and so forth.
The mass rallies and TV interviews will come very quickly now. The organizational ducks have to be in a row first.
IMO, October lst will see a Fred with the fire in the belly, the pickle in the middle and the mustard on top.
(.....if you remember that song you're with me, bro).
GO FRED !
