William Shatner? Robert Wagner? What? Any Hollywood star whose wife dies is subject to murder charges in your eyes?

Bill Shatner is the one that gets me. I believe it was just a decade ago that he came home to find his (admittedly drug-abusing) 2nd wife floating naked and face-down in their pool.

That’s the official version. His histrionic 911 call is a matter of record. However, the part that set tongues to wagging is the fact that he didn’t jump in to pull her out. Presumably, he had sufficient presence of mind to reason that if he stayed bone-dry no-one could say he drowned her.

The other factor is that she was a trainwreck of a personality who was driving him round the bend at the time.

Things that make you go “hmmmm.”

Those were all the details I ever knew. If the late Mrs. Shatner was obviously bloated and stinking then Bill’s reticence to get in there would be more understandable.

Natalie Wood’s overdose/suicide was back in ‘83. I believe both she and Robert Wagner were married to other people at the time.

I’m getting nostalgic here. I remember the tabloids were making hay of it for months but there was no evidence of foul play.

Apparently so, and considering nearly half of his examples are specious, it hurts his argument.

Natalie Wood drowned when she fell off her boat near Catalina Island. She had re-married Bob Wager a few years earlier.

They were drunk aboard Christopher Walken's yacht when, late at night, she tried to climb into a skiff and paddle to shore. She fell into the water, and wearing a heavy down parka, got dragged down and drowned.

By all accounts, Robert Wagner was devastated, so I doubt that he gave her the ol' "Jonah-heave".

Sorry, I plead extreme youth, and an only passing interest in celebrity culture.

That said, it is incredible just how drownable intoxication makes you. You can drown in a damn mud puddle when sloshed (re: Ira Hayes).

Here are some I can think of: OJ Simpson William Shatner Robert Wagner Robert Blake

Teddy Kennedy.

Okay, he's not a 'star', but he's a famous person that got away with murder.

Jayson Williams comes to mind.

Though, technically, he was charged with aggrevated manslaughter, and a slew of other charges not murder.

Very good! Spider Sabich! You’re either an old gumper like me or a weird history buff.

As if prolonged mourning and restraint have ever been chic in Hollywood.

I would have been willing to marry Jill St. John pretty soon after it happened as well.
