GROUP HUG Earlier this week, former Sen. Fred Thompson met privately in Washington, D.C. with senior members of the Arlington Group, a coalition of social and religious conservatives. The meeting, according to Arlington Group members present, included members who had previously met with Thompson at a private meeting in the spring, prior to Thompson's speech before the Council on National Policy.
At the meeting this week Thompson answered questions and discussed his views on social issues, as well as his own faith, for more than an hour.

You did it perfectly.
Welcome to FR by the way.
Thank you, I needed that.
The first part of the article is the really good part though. That’s where we find out that Rudy missed his fundraising goals by HALF!!! w00t! :)
Rudy fell short of his goals by a staggering $10,000,000.
I am curious if this will be whipped into the same gloom-and-doom fury by the MSM akin to when the Thompson campaign didn’t quite make it’s first week goal or whatever that was.
I didn’t even read that, except I did know it was about fundraising. The other part interested me the most.
That is a huge thing, missing the goal by that much.
Speaking of which, I just got an email request from Fred08 asking to get a donation in before the quarter deadline.
Ah nuts. I got excited when I saw the headline. I thought the post would be about St. Patrick’s day.
I thought it deserved it’s own thread, so I posted it. :)
I sent another one as soon as I got it.
I can’t make a large lump sum donation, but a bunch of smaller ones should work just as well. :)
This article is a far cry from the drek that was being spewed a few days ago about how conservatives were refusing to support Fred.

I thought it deserved its own thread, so I posted it. :)
BUMP!
It certainly appears that when Fred jumped in officially, things started going downhill for Rudy.
Welcome and good job daylilly!
Like this:
“What I came away from the meeting with was that, first, he is one of us, and second, he will actually work with us and use the bully pulpit of the presidency to help us and our nation’s culture.”
Thanks.........
It really did deserve it’s own thread, with its own separate discussion. Thanks.
Most critical to the members, according to an Arlington Group staffer present, was Thompson's more in-depth explanation of his position supporting a Constitutional amendment barring gay marriage, but not the one most members of the Arlington Group have been supporting.
"It doesn't go as far as many of us would like, but it goes a lot further than Rudy Giuliani, and he's got a much more solid record on the issue than Mitt Romney. It gets us closer to where we need to be. I am satisfied," says another religious leader at the meeting. "In the end, Thompson's position would bar judges from changing the definition of marriage, and he said that he would be supportive of a Constitutional amendment if we were able to get it passed. What I came away from the meeting with was that, first, he is one of us, and second, he will actually work with us and use the bully pulpit of the presidency to help us and our nation's culture."
