If some communities thought our nation's bank-robbery laws were unfair to bank robbers, should they be allowed to ignore the laws and provide sanctuary to robbers? A ridiculous proposition, reasonable people would say, but not too ridiculous for Sen. Christopher J. "1 Percent" Dodd when the context is illegal immigration.
In the televised debate Wednesday night, Democratic presidential candidates were asked whether they, if elected, would allow New Haven and other cities to continue to "ignore the federal law regarding the reporting of illegal immigrants and, in fact, provide sanctuary to (illegal) immigrants?" Sen. Dodd said until the nation enacts immigration laws more to his liking, illegals and the communities in which they live simply should ignore the ones in place. "If it means temporarily engaging in a sanctuary protection here, then so be it."
That's it? The nation is being overrun by illegals who flout our laws and Sen. Dodd's answer is "so be it"? So much for solemnly swearing to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic."
And in trying to pin the blame for the immigration mess on President Bush, Sen. Dodd shot himself squarely in the foot: "This was a failure of leadership again at the national level." Indeed, but Sen. Dodd has been in a national leadership position for more than a quarter century 32 years if you count his time in the House and thus perfectly positioned to implement "the kind of immigration laws that we frankly don't have on the books today." His manifest failure to achieve his goal speaks volumes about his leadership abilities, but his advocacy of premeditated lawlessness casts serious doubt on his fitness to continue as Connecticut senior senator.

Dodd is an enemy of the people. Nuff said.
Well, to put a maximally positive face on his attitude: it’s nice to see a Yankee coming out in favor of old John C. Calhoun’s concept of concurrent majorities.
Funny how, if you proposed letting states or cities take a pass on this or that liberal Federal legislation (or court decision), he’d revert to true Yankee colors and want the Federal law enforced.
Hey, Senator Dodd, how about cities being allowed to create sanctuaries for fetuses by banning abortions by ordinance?
“Hey, Senator Dodd, how about cities being allowed to create sanctuaries for fetuses by banning abortions by ordinance?”
That’s an interesting idea.
Too bad Dodd has not got Imus around anymore. In the old days, he could go on that fossil’s show and joke around and spin the things that were truly from his black liberal heart into something that was merely innocous drivel.
sounds impeachable to mee.......
Mr. Dodd highlights insanity.
If you have absolutely no respect for law, Mr. Dodd, than what the heck are you doing in the lawmaking business in the first place?
Too many waitress sandwiches between Dodd and Senator Chappaquiddick of Massachusetts.
Good burn.
A few years back, I was walking through the Riverton Fair with my liberal brother’s family.
My brother spotted Senator Dodd and reqested a photo be taken together. I didn’t want any part of it, and I walked away. Someone else offered to take a picture.
Only seconds afterword, it ocurred to me how I had missed a golden opportunity to line them up, and prompt a photo reaction of them with a “ Now everybody say Ted Kennedy waitress sandwich!”
Their collective portrait would have been priceless, had I thought faster on my feet.
How did the rest of the field answer that question?
