So much for straw polls.

Huh? They're just party fundraisers, generally for county or state parties. For fun, they take a straw poll and fax it everywhere.

Straw polls tell you who the most motivated activists are supporting but not a whole lot more. The average voter won't spend money on a local fundraiser for the party just to eat rubber chicken, listen to the same old speeches and vote in a straw poll.

There was an interesting report I read from the event itself:

"On a side note, Rudy's speaker (Bill Spadea, who is a great speaker, by the way), in an attempt to sell his candidate, brought up the fact that Rudy had people in NYC arrested for jaywalking.... and then defended the policy! Interestingly enough, Mr. Spadea admitted that he admires Ron Paul and that his own father will probably be voting for the Dr. Paul."
But still, Spadea's dad voting for Ron Paul is just interesting and fun at this point. But I have read repeatedly that there are some very very aggressive RP supporters in NJ & NY. In NY, their Meetup has opened its own office. I think they want to try to beat Rudy in NY state, relying on upstate NY where he isn't popular and where most of the Republican voters in the state are. And I think that's pretty interesting too.

FWIW, looks like FDT seems to be pretty popular in this Upstate neck of the woods. Paul looks like a loony, and Rudy McRomney just provoke the gag reflex.

Raising ONE MILLION DOLLARS in less than a week in pretty interesting, as well. Those Paul 'spammers' have got some cash...

http://www.politicsnj.com/giuliani-wins-passaic-county-republican-endorsement-11749

Paleoconservative activist George Ajjan, a blogger and former congressional candidate, spoke on behalf of Paul, seeking to assure hesitant mainstream Republicans that the unorthodox candidate was in line with their ideals. “There is not one no one nominated to federal office in the United States who is more committed to the constitution than Ron Paul,” said Ajjan. “He is a true blue conservative.”

Ajjian is a pretty well known local GOP activist/advocate/talking head. Ron Paul can expect to get up to 5% of the Passaic county GOP primary vote even without a campaign, about equal to Murray Sabrin's '98 governor's general election candidacy. If Paul's organization can roost up some people, he might pull in up to about 7% of the vote.

Guiliani is the prick who started confiscating cars from the bridge and tunnel crowd to bulk up the cities finances. Guiliani is directly paid by the company trying to lease and jack up the costs for New Jerseyians to drive toll roads we already paid for. He is still "the Hero Mayor of 9/11", and fools inside the feeble NJ GOP are all the eager to attach themselves to Rudy, someone who openly considers them fools.
