Encountering Internal Threats IRGC's Main Mission

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Confronting internal threats is the main mission of the IRGC today, commander-in-chief of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said here on Saturday, adding that his troops will, of course, rush to help the army in case of military threats to Iran by foreign counties.

Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari reminded that IRGC has not been formed only for military purposes, and reminded, "Safeguarding the achievements of the revolution and encountering internal threats and any threat undermining the achievements of the Islamic Republic sets the mission of the Corps."

He further noted the different threats posed by enemies to Iran ever since the onset of the Islamic Revolution, and said, "As the Supreme Leader has said, IRGC should have a flexible organization and structure in order to be able to encounter the political, social and security threats posed by the enemies."

"We should adapt our structure to the surrounding conditions or existing threats in a bid to enter the scene promptly and with sufficient flexibility, as the Supreme Leader (Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei) has said," the IRGC's top commander said.

He said the main strategy of the IRGC has differed in accordance with the existing conditions and in compliance with the decree of the Supreme Leader, adding that the main responsibility of the IRGC was once confrontation with all types of threats, including both internal and external ones, "But the main strategy of the IRGC has differed now. Confrontation with internal threats is the main mission of the IRGC at present. Of course in case of foreign military threats, the IRGC will rush to help the army."

Your parenthetical subtitle is too hopeful. Iran is constituted as a totalitarian state: the main purpose of the Gestapo and of the KGB (and its predecessor organizations, the NKVD, the GRU, and the Cheka) was countering internal threats.

...threats to Iran by foreign counties.

Hmmmm, maybe I should ask my county officials if they are planning something.

This was reported on Regime website. Every person in Iran knows what IRGC is for. It’s not something they have to report to them.
It was written to let us know that they’re watching for internal threats. Why? Because they’re nervous that there may be an increase in internal threats.

If we could get enough counties together, we’d really have something.

This sounds like what chavez said not long ago...the new sniper weapons was to protect VZ citizens from a threat from the USA...when it was only to used on it's on citizens.

The unrest taking place in Iran must be getting really really bad. This is what the Bush Administration has been hoping/waiting for implosion...

So, this news item is intended to be a notice to the populace that the State is ready to put-down any unrest. Basically, the government is saying, “Watch your step.”

Yes, and to the U.S. which is helping to fund opposition.

“Basically, the government is saying, “Watch your step.””
Yes. This came out on the heels of protests in Myanmar. Don’t want people getting any ideas.

“This sounds like what chavez said not long ago...the new sniper weapons was to protect VZ citizens from a threat from the USA...when it was only to used on it’s on citizens.”

And the Berlin Wall was to protect East Berliners.

“The unrest taking place in Iran must be getting really really bad.”

The unhappiness & dissatisfaction of Iranians is increasing to where there are smaller protests by different groups, very frequently and desperation felt by millions is making the regime nervous. And the House just passed the allocation for more $$$ to go to opposition groups. So, the unrest isn’t really bad yet, but it’s getting there.
