They need to declare independence from the USA rather than from China.

It would be good for them and us for them to become strong enough to do so.

Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party passed a resolution Sunday asserting the island's separate identity from rival China and calling for a referendum on Taiwan's sovereignty.

Strap in folks, the ride get rough from here.

Red China will not take this lightly.

The Chicoms would NOT dare do anything with the world-spotlight on them full-blast..

Don't be quite so certain. Push comes to shove, I bet they care more about bringing the Republic of China under their thumb, lest members of the mainland Chinese proletariat get funny ideas, than they care about the rest of the world.

Typical misleading headline followed by a stream of ill-conceived comments. Does anyone actually ever bother reading beyond the first sentence?

This is not a Taiwan resolution at all, but rather as the article goes on to expound, a DPP party congress resolution. This would be akin to calling a Democrat internal party resolution to withdraw troops from Iraq as the U.S. actually withdrawing troops from Iraq. It is internal party grandstanding and not policy considering that the KMT controls the legislature.
