I'm not particularly interested in whatever your professor friend or the Cato Institute have to say. The fact that Bernie Sanders supports something doesn't necessarily mean that it's wrong, and referencing him in every post doesn't strengthen your argument. A government's job is to negotiate trade deals. A government's job is also to see that rules are enforced. If a country is cheating, the government should stop that cheating. If the deal puts Americans at a disadvantage, the deal should be renegotiated. Undoubtedly, some group benefits from every deal while other groups suffer. Our government still needs to weigh these advantages and disadvantages and try to find an overall best choice. The Louisiana Purchase did nothing for many Americans living on the coast in the early 1800's, but the deal was still a good deal for this country.

I would love to see less regulation and lower taxes overall. Those changes would benefit the country as a whole. Tort reform would also help the country tremendously. Huge amounts of our productivity go to lawyers who try to bleed those who are producing in this country and to other lawyers who are trying to defend the productive. If tort reform meant that those lawyers would have to get honest, productive work, our overall productivity would be higher, and our country would be richer.

While I'm wishing, I could wish for lower government spending overall. The first reason that we should reduce spending is that much of government spending is counterproductive. The "War on Poverty" spread poverty. As we reduce spending, we can lower and shift our taxes. While we may never again reach a point where we can run the entire government on tariff revenue, tariffs have the advantage of being the least intrusive form of taxation. With a tariff, the tax man's power only applies at the end of the dock. Once he walks off the dock at the end of the day, his power over Americans is finished. That's why the Founding Fathers wanted to run the country on tariffs.

"Then you’ll be cheerleading like the rest of the Fredheads about Fred’s ‘original thinking’."

I'll be cheering my candidate's victory in the primary, while you pat yourself on the back for the 3 percent that your guy pulls in. But enjoy your moral victory :)

Hunter should try to get an endorsement from former Senator Wallop; that would count for something.

"politician who did not pursue an Engineering career expects to inspire people to pursue one"

I think this point has more relevance to politicians who did not serve in the military inspiring people to do so. It's tough selling military service when three generations of your family have left it to others to serve.

Engineering is among man productive careers that persons can choose to do.
