Actually the issue isn’t about shutting off US trade - you know that. It’s about facilitating hemispheric integration. It’s about power. The talking point of late is infrastructure. It should be sovereignty.

Integration can best be described as not about what it is, but what it isn’t. If I said the “market” yeah it be there. Free-trade, yep. But it it so broad a concept that it blurs and even denigrates what our Republic is founded upon. Our freedoms and protections from government may, and many times do not, be agreed upon by peoples of other cultures. Over arching government bureaucracy that regulates trade, aspects of our military, finance, labor, environment...

But what of this country? We are the capital producers. The US transfers wealth as a scheme to “bring economic prosperity to very poor populations” and shoring up underdeveloped nations at our citizens expense. When those poor countries gain seats of influence, they may counter US law, and legally change it through international (in this case regional) means.
