Something You Never Get Over (10 years ago, 10 year old killed by pedophiles)
Boston Herald ^ | 10/1/07 | Joe Fitzgerald

Posted on 10/01/2007 6:47:14 AM PDT by raccoonradio

There are times, Bob Curley admits, when it’s hard to keep from focusing on dark thoughts, and today will be one of them because this is the 10th anniversary of his boy’s horrific death.

“I’ll see kids who were his friends, all grown up, and wonder, what would he have been like now? He’d be 20; maybe he’d be in the military. Who knows? I can’t help thinking about things like that.”

Jeffrey Curley, 10, was walking home from his grandmother’s house the day two homosexual lovers who were predatory pedophiles lured him into their car with the promise of $50 and a new bicycle.

As subsequent details emerged, they enraged the populace.

After attempting to fend off his attackers, Jeff was suffocated by them and taken to an apartment where one molested his dead body. Investigators later found those rooms strewn with photographs and literature depicting men having sex with young boys.

The corpse was placed in a plastic trunk, filled with concrete and lime, sealed with duct tape, then dumped into the Great Works River in Maine where it was discovered a week later.

“I remember the day we buried him,” Curley, 52, said. “The limo was taking us through Harvard Square and when I saw kids playing soccer on the common it upset me, like, how could anyone be playing games at a time like that? I was pretty messed up, and it got worse.”

A mechanic for the Cambridge Fire Department, he couldn’t shake the memory of his final moments with his son.

“His brother Shaun had just gotten his license,” he recalled. “He had an old junkbox car sitting in the yard. So I came over from work, bringing a container of gasoline. We were going to pour it into the carburetor to get it going.

“I asked Jeff to get a small cup. When he came back I began lecturing him on how dangerous gasoline could be, and why it was so important to be careful. It was our last conversation and that’s how they killed him, smothering him with a rag soaked in gasoline. I thought about that for a long time.”

He also found himself beset by fears.

“I began expecting the worst, especially at work. The guys were really supportive, rallying around me. But I’d work on a truck, then go home and worry all night long that someone might get killed because something I did turned out wrong. There was a constant fear that bad things were going to happen again.”

As time went by he sought relief in drinking.

“That was never a problem before Jeff died,” he said. “But now it was getting to be a very big one. I was looking for a way to numb those pains and fears, to deal with the anger that kept building inside me, but things just got worse.”

At 6:30 one morning in the summer of 2005, when “I found myself sitting at the beach in South Boston with nowhere to go,” Curley picked up a paper and read about a 33-year-old Charlestown man, gifted and much loved, who drank himself to death.

“His name was Chris Mulligan,” he recalled. “As I began reading I thought, ‘Another rummy bites the dust.’ But by the end I was crying, telling myself it was time to look in the mirror. I never met Chris Mulligan, but I believe he saved my life.”

Curley has been sober ever since.

“Now, many of my memories are good ones. I’ll remember playing catch with him, or teaching him how to skate, or running along the river with him following me on his bike, doing wheelies, clowning around, saying, ‘Hey, Dad, how am I looking? I’m getting strong, huh?’ I’d say, ‘Oh, yeah, I can smell you over here.’ And he’d laugh. He had a great sense of humor. He was really a funny kid.”

Sometimes, however, it’s what happens to other people’s kids that stops Curley in his tracks.

“When Jeff died, there was so much media attention. It helped to know how much everyone cared. But now when I read of kids dying in the city there’s just a little mention about ‘a shooting in Dorchester.’

“That’s all. You never hear much more about them, and I’ll start feeling bad for those families whose hearts have been ripped out, the way ours were, wishing there was some way to tell them someone understands, someone cares.”

But on the whole, he says, he’s doing OK.

“I hear the word closure a lot. Anybody who’s been through something like this will tell you there is no such thing. Yes, things do get better; yes, you do move on.

“But it’s not as if you lost your pet or broke up with your girlfriend, then got over it. This is something you never get over. So you just have to find a way to manage it, knowing it’s going to be with you for the rest of your life.”

MA of course has no death penalty. One effort to bring it back ended when it was shot down by the state legislature, after John Slattery of Peabody switched his vote. I believe Bob Curley supported the death penalty after his son's death but later changed his position on it.

These two guys (Jaynes and Siccari, IIRC) should be pushing up daisies and Jeff Curley should be a 20 year old in college, or the military, or holding a job somewhere, looking forward to a long and happy life.

The Curleys brought a suit against NAMBLA as one of the murderers had NAMBLA material at his house and had accessed their website, but thanks to the ACLU it was dismissed ("based on the specific legal issue that NAMBLA is organized as an association, not a corporation. The Curleys continued the suit as a wrongful death action against individual NAMBLA members and NAMBLA Steering Committee members.")

From Court TV. These two guys are rotting in jail but they should have faced the death penalty:

>>Sicari was contacted again by Cambridge police and continued to provide details. In his statement, Sicari described the killing. While he drove Jaynes’ Cadillac, he explained, the 250-pound Jaynes sat on Curley in the back seat. As Curley struggled, Jaynes allegedly told him, “Don’t fight it.” Jaynes then placed a gasoline soaked rag to the boy’s mouth and held it there, killing him, Sicari said.

>>After the killing, Sicari told police, he and Jaynes drove to numerous stores to buy the items necessary to dispose of Curley’s body. Video cameras in two of the stores captured the men at the checkout counter purchasing a Rubbermaid container, a bag of lime and a bag of concrete. The men then left Massachusetts and drove north to Jaynes’ apartment in Manchester, New Hampshire. There, according to Sicari, Jaynes took off Curley’s clothes and molested the boy’s dead body. The sight of this made him ill, said Sicari. When he ran to the bathroom, Jaynes told him, “Don’t be a baby. Come out here and help me — he’s starting to stiffen up.”

>>Sicari then admitted to helping Jaynes prepare the body. First they placed Curley’s body in the cement-filled Rubbermaid container, put lime on his face and in his mouth to speed decomposition, and sealed the container with duct tape. Then they drove to Maine, where they dumped the container into a river, Sicari said.

>>Prosecutors believed that Sicari and Jaynes lured Curley into Jaynes’ Cadillac with the promise of $50 and a bicycle. One or both of the men allegedly made sexual advances towards the boy, then suffocated him when he resisted.

It’s been 22 years since I lost my son and no, you never get over it. The last paragraph is correct, you learn to manage it, that’s all.

They hunted this kid. They stalked him, were nice to him, and I think they bought him a bicycle.

The rag they stuffed into his mouth was soaked in gasoline, they they duct taped. He was thrown in the river alive, after they ‘used’ him.

Now these guys are in a perve unit where they all swap stories, eat three starchies a day then do each other.

As more and more flee Massachusetts, Michigan, New York they will bring these people and their values to your Southern/Western state. They can not help it their brains have been burned, chiseled patterned into mindless reflex feeling based leftism.

The real story is horrible enough, but they didn’t thow him into the river alive. He was dead long before that.

>>I think they bought him a bicycle.

I think the story I’d heard was that they had STOLEN bicycle
and when they saw him they said, “come with us, we think
we can get a bike for you”.

>>Now these guys are in a perve unit where they all swap stories, eat three starchies a day then do each other.

Yeah but the libs will tell you about how inhumane
the death penalty is. (The DP actually passed a referendum in MA but legislature stopped it)

>>The debate reached a peak in 1997 after the killing of Jeffrey Curley, a 10-year-old Cambridge boy, but then the House rejected a bill reinstating the death penalty on a tie vote.

Because someone convinced John Slattery (SLATTERY
will get you NOWHERE) to switch his vote at last minute.

An unpleasant fact ignored by the anti-death penalty zealots: Prisoners masturbate and while doing so they fantasize. Try not to think about what these creeps imagine themselves doing.

from an NRO article by Deroy Murdock (Frisoli btw
ran unsuccessfully for MA Attorney General last year.
Defeated by Martha Coakley, the former Middlesex County
D.A. who was seen frequently on TV in high-profile
cases)

Deroy Murdock:

NAMBLA is “not just publishing material that says it’s OK to have sex with children and advocating changing the law,” says Larry Frisoli, a Cambridge attorney who is arguing the Curleys case in federal court. NAMBLA, he says, “is actively training their members how to rape children and get away with it. They distribute child pornography and trade live children among NAMBLA members with the purpose of having sex with them.”

Frisoli cites a NAMBLA publication he calls “The Rape and Escape Manual.” Its actual title is “The Survival Manual: The Man’s Guide to Staying Alive in Man-Boy Sexual Relationships.”

Wow. I can’t believe it’s been 10 years. I remember this case getting worse and worse - from missing child, to finding the body, to all the details coming out, to bringing NAMBLA to the forefront. RIP Jeff.

This story infuriated me when I first learned about it, and NAMBLA (spit), a couple of years ago. I even had my post at the time pulled by a moderator because of my inappropriate incitement to violence towards the ACLU (spit).

What I said then still goes... double!

I know Slattery....

Misguided in his thinking in why he decided he couldn’t vote the dealt penalty. These two don’t deserve to live but if they rot in jail in an ugly fashion I can live with that.

may have been persuaded by the House Spkr at the time to
switch his vote. Maybe a promise of a plum job or
some other perk?
How about Cheryl Jacques “rhymes with fakes”, who
had pledged to fight back against the likes of
Billy Bulger but lated became a Bulger bumkisser?
It can happen.

Good. But I still say that all perverts, regardless of whether their victims are killed or alive, should be strung up by their gonads.

the 2 reasons she won: massive exposure on TV (just call
her Liveshot Coakley), and the
“D” next to her name. This is Massachusetts after all.

Globe, Sep 06: “Coakley’s office has recently handled a string of high-profile prosecutions, including the case against British national Neil Entwistle for allegedly murdering his wife and nine-month-old daughter.”

Prayers for the family and this boy.

This is exactly why I boycott companies like Miller brewing and Ford. There are alot of people on here that say it isnt worth the time. But we must unite and do something. Everytime you purchase a product you are voting for a company. There are alternatives to everything out there and has become the lesser of two evils. I try to choose products from companies which dont support NAMBLA or the vehemently anti-Christian/antifamily (i.e. Miller Brewing, Kodak, Ford). I know its not much but other than voting for true conservatives (e.g. Tancredo or Hunter) what else can we do?
