Democrats on Monday called on the chief executive of Clear Channel Communications to denounce remarks by radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, whom they say made a hateful and unpatriotic attack on U.S. troops opposed to the war in Iraq.
At issue is a remark from Limbaugh that characterized such troops as phony soldiers. Democrats have seized on the issue, allowing them to hit back at Republicans who similarly latched onto a MoveOn.org ad that referred to Gen. David Petraeus as General Betray Us.
Thousands of active troops and veterans were subjected to Mr. Limbaughs unpatriotic and indefensible comments on your broadcast, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said in his letter to Clear Channel Chief Executive Mark Mays. We trust you will agree that not a single one of our sons, daughters, neighbors and friends serving overseas is a phony soldier. We call on you to publicly repudiate these comments that call into question their service and sacrifice and to ask Mr. Limbaugh to apologize for his comments.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OCTOBER 1, 2007
Mr. KINGSTON submitted the following resolution
RESOLUTION
Commending Rush Hudson Limbaugh III for his ongoing public support of American troops serving both here and abroad. Recognizing Mr. Limbaugh for his relentless efforts to build and maintain troop morale through worldwide radio broadcasts and personal visits to conflict regions.
Whereas the need to show support for American troops serving and fighting both here and abroad during a time of global conflict has never been greater, with the need to communicate an uplifting message of encouragement to American soldiers eternally important, in addition to the morale-boosting value of personal visits to region by highly-regarded individuals;
Whereas daily radio broadcasts reaching tens of millions of civilians and soldiers both in America and abroad by way of the Armed Forces Radio Network are conducted five days a week by Rush Hudson Limbaugh III;
Whereas Mr. Limbaugh has consistently used his broadcast time to praise American troops and support them during their ongoing efforts to secure peace in a troubled world;
Whereas Mr. Limbaugh made a week-long visit to meet with troops based in Afghanistan in 2004;
Whereas Mr. Limbaugh has raised and donated millions of dollars to the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation, which provides college scholarships to the children of Marines and veterans of other branches killed in action;
Whereas Mr. Limbaughs website features an Adopt a Soldier program which provides them with free subscription access to his online program features;
Whereas during the original invasion in 2003, pilots of five different aircraft flew an American flag in Mr. Limbaughs honor during their bombing and refueling runs; and
Whereas Mr. Limbaughs commitment to American troops serving both here and abroad remains as strong as ever: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives
(1) recognizes Rush Hudson Limbaugh III for his support of the Marine Corp Law Enforcement Foundation and for providing free subscriptions for active-duty servicemembers;
(2) recognizes Mr Limbaughs desire to see American troops achieve a successful outcome in Iraq, Afghanistan and wherever soldiers are stationed; and
(3) commends Mr. Limbaughs tireless public support for American troops and their families through radio broadcasts, fundraising and other public support.

BUMP
This crap worked to get Imus fired, and now they think that they can pump up some crap to get rid of their most hated enemy.
Won’t work.
Face, meet door.
Well, I haven’t heard Rush today, but I’m betting he’ll enjoy this whole charade.
Aye...Limbaugh owns the corporation he works for, unlike Imus, who talked on someone else’s mic. One way or another, Rush will keep talking.
These Senators need to be held responsible for the Blatant lies they ar putting forward.....I hope there are some Republicans with enough spine to say that same thing.
The tell any lie, do any deed, cheat and steal Democrat party is right in front of your face for all to see — There can be no more doubt. It’s not a pretty sight when the Hillary Matters party stoops to this level — Don’t they know their media parrot can’t do it any more?.
The integrity of the Democrat party came to an end in 1992, and it’s been downhill ever since not having sex with that woman.
Notice, the article in the Hill completly leaves out the part where Rush was taken out of context. It completely leaves out the fact that Rush was talking about soldiers who are faking service in Iraq. Way to go Hill, nice reporting on that one. Does anyone have an e-mail address for this reporter.
Then Rush should respond with a concise letter back staying something akin to the following:
While Mr. Limbaugh was referring to the phony soldiers (name them) it is not like he stood in the well of the senate and called our troops Nazi’s or losers.
Mr. Limbaugh has apologized to his listeners for the ill behavior of Senator Reid and Durbin, as well as the misbehavior of Media Matters in slandering conservatives who support the troops.
Mr. Limbaugh will continue to support our troops, as he always has, and will continue to counter the slander of them by media matters and moveon.org
Or something like that; if there is any response at all.
Dems know they took it in the you know what on the NYT ad and this is simply an attempt to counter it now with this garbage.
Won’t work.
Rush can hold his own.
They never will because our side BLOWS at getting the word out and calling the left on their crap.
You’re right. The Hill article is part of the smear.

Libs hate the truth which is why they don’t like Rush shining a light on all their darkness.
One problem with this line of attack is that it seems odd anyone would call real soldiers who simply oppose the war, “phoney soldiers”.
Well there are a lot of differences. For one thing, Imus, unlike Rush did not have as many radio station outlets when he was on the air as Rush has, which is over 600 radio stations. Also Rush is much more popular and if there is any efforts to get rid of him the fans would be up in arms. Also Rush is armed with the truth.
They can’t use the Fairness Doctrine to muzzle him, so the leftists’ next tactic is to smear him by shamelessly lying about what he actually said. Harry Reid’s approach to the boss of Clear Channel is the most explicit attempt at government censorship of free speech imaginable. Rush should sue Reid and the rest of them for an unlawful attempt to deprive him of his livelihood.
