The boy who is allergic to almost EVERY food

Tyler Savage: he is fed through a tube in his stomach

A boy of 12 suffers from so many allergies that he is able to eat only five foods.

Tyler Savage is violently ill every time he is given dishes containing dairy products or wheat, gluten, eggs, lactose and soya.

The sole foods he is allowed are chicken, carrots, grapes, potatoes and apples.

To help him survive, minerals and vitamins are pumped directly into his stomach through a tube.

Tyler started to fall ill at the age of six when even a morsel of food would leave him writhing in agony from sickness and diarrhoea.

His mother, Lynne Savage, 43, said: "We asked for help but kept being told that he was suffering from a stomach infection. As a result his weight dropped drastically.

"He ran out of energy really quickly and couldn't do the things other children were doing. He just seemed to be getting worse and worse.

"It's been a real struggle. We didn't know what to do."

Tyler - from Earls Colne in Essex - was seen by a paediatrician at Chelmsford's St John's Hospital and had his appendix removed in December 2005.

Although the operation was a success it failed to solve the problem and he was referred to Colchester General Hospital for further tests and treatment.

That shed no light on the mystery illness and in April last year Tyler was sent to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London for checks on his stomach and bowels.

The tests led to a diagnosis of eosinophilic enteropathy, a rare and condition in which the intestines produce too many white blood cells.

These act as a miniature immune system and attack food passing through the gut to the stomach.

The condition saw Tyler's weight drop to barely three stone.

"He was becoming malnourished," said Mrs Savage, a married mother-of-three and housewife.

At first, Tyler was fitted with a nose tube to help get food direct to his stomach, bypassing the rogue blood cells in his gut.

Then, this May, he had a tube inserted into his stomach allowing him to be fed for up to ten hours through the night.

"Even though this will continue for the foreseeable future, it is a godsend," said Mrs Savage.

"Last year he was only at school for about ten days, but in the first two weeks of this new term he's only missed one day.

"We've got a long way to go but at least we're now getting some answers."

In the day, Tyler, whose father, David, 60, is an engineer, can eat the five foods he is not allergic to.

Post 51 link to Will to Live (which will not kill the signer). Thank you for your hard work, 8mmmauser.

P.S. And great news that Dr. Kevorkian was pushed off of the calendar at U of F for now! That's what Bobby Schindler publicly requested and although it wasn't Bobby that was entirely responsible for Dr. K being off the lecture schedule at U of F for 10-11--07, I'm sure that Bobby's delighted.

I printed out a copy of the Will to Live for a close friend who is also our attorney. He is a specialist in elder law and is the County Probate Judge at that, like Greer. He was most pleased to get the copy and read it. Since wills are his main focus, it will have some impact.

Whatever disparaging remarks I may aim at some or even plenty of judges, are quite the opposite of what we see in our fine friend, the Judge, here.

Terri's Legacy continues to touch other lives...

.............................

Milan, Oct. 4, 2007 (CWNews.com) - An Italian court has denied a request to withdraw nutrition and hydration from a young women living in a comatose condition, re-awakening a national debate on end-of-life issues.

Eluana Englaro has survived in a coma for 15 years since sustaining grave injuries in an automobile accident. This year her father approached a court in Milan asking for authorization to remove the tube that provides the woman with food and water; the court rejected his argument.

The case of Eluana bears some resemblance to the case of an American woman, Terri Schiavo, who died in March 2005 after her estranged husband won court approval to remove her feeding tube. The Italian case has also drawn comparisons to that of Piergiorgio Welby, a muscular-dystrophy victim and an outspoken advocate of euthanasia, who died in December 2006 when his doctor unplugged his ventilator. Welby had previously petitioned for court approval to have the ventilator unplugged, but his plea was rebuffed.

In September the Vatican added to the debate with a statement teaching that the provision of nutrition and hydration for a comatose patient is "an ordinary and proportionate means of preserving life," and is therefore "obligatory" in most circumstances.

Terri's Legacy reaches far and wide. This is in from South Africa.

..................................

...................John Paul II died aged 84 after a long battle with Parkinson's and other ailments. He had been hospitalised twice in February 2005 and had had a trachaeotomy procedure to help him breathe.

The debate over his final days was also revived by the libertarian Radical Party, which advocates euthanasia, when the Vatican's doctrinal enforcement body issued a document last month saying that it was obligatory to feed a patient in a "vegetative state".

The document was in response to a question posed by US bishops, apparently prompted by the case of Terri Schiavo in Florida, and it was thought irrelevant to John Paul II, who was conscious as he lay dying.

Schiavo, who was in an irreversible coma, died in March 2005 at age 41 after her feeding tube was removed by court order.

An opinion poll last year found that 60 percent of Italians were in favour of euthanasia.

Fred and Terri tar baby dailies...

So far every day since, the media reminds us. Hear it from the Lone Star Times.

.........................

So many pundits have noted the flaws in Fred Thompson’s campaign that it’s almost no fun to write about them. Almost

I mean, really, he can be forgiven for not knowing anything about Terri Schiavo, for not understanding the issues involved in drilling for oil in the Everglades, for saying that the Democrats were in charge when he shepherded John Roberts through the Supreme Court nomination process, for thinking the Soviet Union was still around to react to Iran and even for not knowing that the Supreme Court had decided to rule on lethal injections on a case in Tennessee while he was in Tennessee. After all, he’s a busy man with two young kids, no time to read the news..................

A comment in Muscatine...

" There will always be sin and evil therefore there will always be abused children, etc... That is NOT a valid reason to take the life of an innocent in the womb. Terminating a life affects all of us in that it devalues life and creates a whole society that devalues life. That is certainly in evidence now with the Schiavo case, embryonic stem cell research, etc... If you aren't safe in your mothers womb where are you safe? And to pro choice people-your choice is made with your decision to have sex. No birth control is 100% effective except for abstinence. It's not someones "right" to have sex but it is someones "right" to be born! "

From LifeNews...

....................................

Gainesville, FL (LifeNews.com) -- Saying it is worried about security in light of concerns at other college campuses, the University of Florida has decided to postpone a controversial speech by euthanasia advocate Jack Kevorkian. The speech would be his first following his release from prison for killing a disabled man and showing the death on national television.

Kevorkian was slated to speak to UF students on October 11 and receive $50,000 for the talk, as long as his parole officers approve the trip.

Now the speech has been postponed until January 15 as UF officials say they need more time to beef up their security in light of the recent tazering incident.

The pro-life youth group Rock for Life has been working with Terri Schiavo's family and others to try to get the college to call off the speech.

In a statement LifeNews.com obtained, Rock for Life said "We still plan on going down to the University of Florida if the Jack Kevorkian speech isn’t cancelled."

"Currently we are working with the pro-life student group to pressure the University to cancel the speech," the group added. "Many of the students are very disappointed that the school is spending [tends of thousands] to bring 'Dr. Death' on campus."

The group indicated Kevorkian is getting an additional $7,500 for the inconvenience of being postponed.

Meanwhile, the Schindler family has been leading an effort to stop the speech by gathering petitions from concerned citizens so Kevorkian doesn't get a platform in their home state.

They don't want the former pathologist telling students that people with disabilities should be killed, like their sister, rather than receiving appropriate medical treatment or rehabilitative care.

Bobby Schindler, Terri's brother, told LifeNews.com, "We have collected thousands of petitions (and they are still coming in) to deliver to the Office of the President of the University of Florida."

"We're demanding the University rescind its offer to pay $50,000 for Kevorkian to address the students," he added.

"Despite the ongoing message of death spreading through our society and those, like Jack Kevorkian, who attempt to justify killing the most vulnerable among us, we are committed to fight against this death-obsessed culture and spread Terri's legacy of life, hope and love," Schindler explained.

He said pro-life people and others worried about Kevorkian's pro-assisted suicide message should sign a petition asking the University of Florida to cancel the speech. The petition can be found at the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation web site.

This thread hits the core of Terri's Legacy today...

REPORTS have surfaced in the press about a meeting that occurred last Saturday in Salt Lake City involving more than 50 pro-family leaders. The purpose of the gathering was to discuss our response if both the Democratic and Republican Parties nominate standard-bearers who are supportive of abortion. Although I was neither the convener nor the moderator of the meeting, I’d like to offer several brief clarifications about its outcome and implications.

After two hours of deliberation, we voted on a resolution that can be summarized as follows: If neither of the two major political parties nominates an individual who pledges himself or herself to the sanctity of human life, we will join others in voting for a minor-party candidate. Those agreeing with the proposition were invited to stand. The result was almost unanimous......................

From EV...

.............................

What is called pragmatism in politics is really merely dangerous shortsightedness and destructive compromise.

Why? Because, it is still true that whatever we sow, we reap.

It’s time for conservatives to stop with the subjective, skewed and deceptive electability arguments and go back to planting good seed, then tending and watering it until the crop we seek bears fruit.

We may have to live with tares until the harvest, but we shouldn’t participate in any way in planting them. That’s the work of the enemy of our souls.

Yes, it is happening. We also find lots of pasta which is ok too and works out well. Things are getting better indeed for those who wish to avoid gluten. One problem is that wheat gluten is the glue which holds it all together and other grains like spelt and rye don’t do so well. But it is being overcome, it seems.

Hellooooo out there, would-be Presidents...

Take note!

Pro-life is not just one more item in a list. It is CORE!

Thread by wagglebee.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new poll shows that an overwhelming majority of Republican voters are still strongly pro-life on the issue of abortion and see it as a reason for being a member of the party. The poll also found a sizable number of Republicans who say they would not likely vote for a pro-abortion Republican candidate.

The Republican-leaning Fabrizio-Mclaughlin polling firm surveyed 2000 self-identified GOP voters nationwide from May 28 to June 3.

The poll found that GOP voters are becoming more conservative with those using that label to identify themselves moving up to 71 percent form 55 percent. Moderates dropped 10 percent to 21 percent of all GOPers and liberal Republicans make up only four percent of the party.

See what the UNwashed are doing in this thread by wagglebee.

A new global initiative was launched by various UN agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in New York last week that includes a call for legal abortion. Among the sponsors of the initiative called "Deliver Now for Women and Children" is the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), a UN agency that persistently denies they support abortion in any way, shape, or form.

Marketed as a campaign to raise awareness of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on maternal and child health, the agenda of "Deliver Now" includes a call for “safe abortion" which is synonymous with legal abortion.

Armesto came forward last month about her horrific abortion experience when she gave testimony before the interim joint legislative committee investigating late-term abortions in Kansas.

Nursing a nagging headache and a sore throat, Gemma Pickwell queued at the pharmacy counter of her local Boots store on a chilly Saturday morning, her arms laden with cold remedies.

She felt her cheeks flush as she then sheepishly muttered to the pharmacist that she also needed the morning-after pill.

But Gemma's blushes were not simply prompted by the embarrassment of having to ask for such an emergency measure, or the fact that the night before she'd had drunken, unprotected sex with her boyfriend, but also because, shockingly, it was her 60th request for the drug in less than five years.

I find this incredible that it is inferring that she has had it 60 times if the same chemist they are irresponsible IMHO in continuing to sell it to her.

If she has got it through her doctors then he is irresponsible in writing the prescription.

The other thing is I am not sure but I think in both cases you would have to pay full rate for the pill whereas the normal contraceptive pill is actually prescribed at no cost it is the only drug I am aware that you do not have to pay our normal NHS standard charge for which is around 13.00 - 14.00 dollars per item for a 28 day supply.

Just in from Colorado Right to Life...

.................................

SUSAN G. KOMEN  BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION TO WOMEN:  DON'T CONFUSE US
WITH THE FACTS

DENVER, Colorado, October 3, 2007
Contact:  Leslie Hanks 720-394-8946,  Lolita Hanks, RN, BSN, FNP 720-218-5050

Colorado Right to Life is challenging the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
Foundation to stop touting breast cancer awareness, while keeping
women in the dark about the real causes of breast cancer. The latest
study reporting an abortion-breast cancer link  published just
yesterday in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons is
entitled, "The Breast Cancer Epidemic."  Among seven identified risk
factors, abortion was found to be the "best predictor of breast
cancer," with fertility listed as another useful predictor. (Carroll,
P. The breast cancer epidemic: modeling and forecasts based on
abortion and other risk factors." J Am Phys Surg Vol. 12, No. 3 (Fall
2007) 72-78.  download the study at:
http://www.jpands.org/vol12no3/carroll.pdf).

This study by Patrick Carroll of PAPRI in London showed that countries
with higher abortion rates, such as England & Wales,  expect a
substantial increase in breast cancer incidence.  Where abortion rates
are low (i.e., Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic) a smaller
increase is expected.  In countries that report a decline in abortion,
(i.e., Denmark and Finland) a decline in breast cancer is anticipated.

During a meeting last October with Komen officials in Denver, Komen
media consultant, DanaBrandorff, told Colorado Right to Life leaders
and former national Komen advisory board member, Eve Sanchez Silver
that they weren't interested in telling women the truth about the well
documented abortion - breast cancer link.

Ms. Silver was appalled at the stunning lack of information the Komen
representatives had about basic breast physiology.  When challenged about their refusal to stop
giving funds to America's largest abortion provider and to inform women that abortion of a first
pregnancy greatly increases exposure to future risk of breast cancer, the Komen officials made
this ridiculous assertion:

"We aren't so much about the prevention, we are all about the cure,"
noted Brandorff.

Raising the hopes of desperate women and their families while refusing
to acknowledge the a-bc link, (www.abortionbreastcancer.com) is
dishonest.  Beyond that irresponsible approach to treating women as if
they can't handle the truth, the whole Race for the Cure premise is
steeped in fraud.

"Even the tobacco industry wouldn't have had the nerve to try to
defraud smokers about the risk of using their products with the same audacity," said CRTL V.P., Leslie Hanks.

"Komen perpetuates breast cancer by giving funds to Planned
Parenthood. They claim the funds are for breast screening but we know
that breast screening is down 15% at Planned Parenthood and abortions are
up 23%."

"Colorado women deserve the truth that abortion of a first pregnancy
is linked with a doubling of the risk of future breast cancer.  Raising millions to cure a
disease that is largely avoidable is despicable," said Hanks.

Aliza Schwab update

Last month we posted the plight of Aliza and her parents as doctors recommended pulling life support and letting her die. They fought the doctors and they prevailed. Now they are making another choice, to put Aliza in an institution or to care for her at home. We relate to that decision as we were faced with a diagnosis by our own doctors that our son would live after birth only a few months at the most and that he needed to be put in an institution (and forgotten...) The doctors were wrong there, too. We applaud the parents of Aliza. God bless them all!

.................................

The girl arrived at her North Miami home Tuesday to a group of family and friends who said they hope for a speedy recovery.

"She's my daughter and I'm happy that she's here," the girl's mother Ester Schwab said. "This is the happiest day. This is a blessing to bring her home."

Schwab sat at her daughter Aliza's bedside monitoring signs of life.

"She's moving her arms, her hands and her toes," she said.

Wrapped in a pink blanket and hooked up to a ventilator, Aliza arrived home from Jackson Memorial Hospital Tuesday after a brush with death.

Four weeks ago, she fell into the family's pool while playing with a neighbor and nearly drowned.

"It was a family barbecue that day," Schwab said.

When paramedics arrived, they were able to get a heartbeat.

"They did not expect her to survive the night," Schwab said.

However, she pulled through but had no response from her brain.

She remained on life support on Tuesday. The family faced two options: long-term care at a facility or caring for Aliza at home.

"We feel that it's better for her," Schwab said. "She'll be surrounded by the people she loves, her siblings and the atmosphere."

For religious reasons, the family wants to keep her alive regardless of what doctors have said.

"They've told us many times that she's not going to make it or things were no good," Schwab said. "But like I said, there's a heart, there's life, so you can't give up on that."

Aliza's family said they do have the help they need to provide her with 24-hour care.

Further on little Aliza...

Note, they have started a website for her with the link at the bottom of this article.

...............................

CBS4) MIAMI A near drowning left a once vibrant 4-year old girl bed-ridden and forced to rely on tubes to breathe and eat. Tuesday, after six weeks in critical condition, Aliza Schwab got to go home.

The accident happened when Aliza slipped away from her parents at their home in North Miami Beach and fell into the pool in the backyard. Today, she has limited brain activity, and doctors have said they don’t see much hope for a full recovery. But her family is convinced she will get better and live a normal life.

“I talk to her, she’ll show me her hands,” said Aliza’s mother, Esther Schwab. “People are in comas and people come out of comas. I believe she will, I believe she’s made an enormous amount of progress and I’m gonna do whatever I can to continue with her care.”

Aliza will require full-time care including an in-home nurse. Her family says for now, insurance is helping but they are accepting donations.

If you’d like to help, click on Aliza's web site to learn more.
