Very different scenario. Bush wasn’t likely to turn the GOP into a haven for Liberals and liberal policies, Rudy911 is. Bush had never given any threats to rewrite the GOP platform, Rudy911 has repeatedly done so.
Voting for the lesser of two evils is the usual pragmatism in elections, but there comes a point where it is no longer pragmatic because of the harm a candidate can do to the party. Rudy is well beyond that threshold. I consider it a dereliction of duty for a Conservative to in any way aid and abet his attempted coup.
If that means the Dems again own all three Houses for a short time while we rebuild the GOP, then so be it. Better to lose just the election than both the election and the party.
Lots can happen in a "short time".
Meanwhile, the Social Democrats initially planned to hinder the passage of the Act by boycotting the Reichstag session, rendering that body short of the quorum (two thirds) needed to vote on a constitutional amendment. The Reichstag, however, led by its President, Hermann Göring, changed its rules of procedure, allowing the President to declare that any deputy who was "absent without excuse" was to be considered as present, in order to overcome obstructions.
