ASCAR isn’t dropping hammer on Hendrick Motorsports team
Violation found on Busch Series winner at Kansas, but no one is getting suspended or losing points

In an apparent reversal of NASCAR practice, Hendrick Motorsports will escape harsh penalties for the violation found on Kyle Busch’s winning car after Saturday’s Busch Series race at Kansas Speedway.

The intake manifold was confiscated following Busch’s victory and, at the time, officials said the manifold failed to meet NASCAR specifications.

NASCAR fined Mike Bumgardner, Busch’s crew chief for the race, $10,000 and place him on probation. The team will receive no other penalty for the infraction.

Hendrick officials still plan to appeal the penalty, contending the manifold was legal, team officials said.

In the past, violations involving intake manifolds in NASCAR’s top three series - Nextel Cup, Busch and Craftsman Trucks - the penalties have nearly always included the loss of points and the suspension of crew chiefs.
