County Clerks Urge Delay on License Policy (New York)

New York State's county clerks say they want the governor to reconsider a plan to take away the requirement to have a social security number to get a driver's license.

It's the latest development in the controversy over making driver's licenses available to undocumented immigrants.

The County Clerks' Association held an emergency meeting in Albany, hearing again from the state DMV about the proposal which some say will strengthen security around driver's licenses, and others say makes New York vulnerable to terrorism.

. . .

Among the group, though -- 13 clerks, including Rensselaer County Clerk Frank Merola and Saratoga County Clerk Kathleen Marchione, who say they will not process license applications for anyone who cannot prove they are a legal New York resident.

Why is any honest American still hanging around in that cesspool! Walk away from it, and do not look back!

QUISLING: a synonym for traitor, someone who collaborates with the invaders of his country.

Current federal law 8USC 1373(a) PROHIBITS SANCTUARY CITIES. It reads as follows:

"Notwithstanding any other provision of federal, state, or local law, a federal, state, or local government entity or official may not prohibit, or in any way restrict any government entity or official from sending to, or receiving from, the Immigration and Naturalization Service information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual."

U.S. Constitution, Article 4 Section 4:

"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government,

and shall protect each of them against Invasion;"

Invasion: \In*va"sion\, n. [L. invasio: cf. F. invasion. See Invade.] [1913 Webster]

1. The act of invading; the act of encroaching upon the rights or possessions of another; encroachment; trespass.

Who are "some" and how can they possibly mean that?

I’m still waiting for Bush or Chertoff to squash Spitzer’s little EO as a national security endangerment.

If they don’t, it will prove that national security doesn’t really mean a thing to them. This Spitzer thing is serious business.

Why can’t these people just use their REAL ID like everyone else instead of stealing ours. Mexican drivers license are perfectly legal in the US.

Why don’t they just go legal?

We're working on it...

Pol: Spitzer driver's license plan 'reckless'

Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco (R-Schenectady) yesterday said Gov. Eliot Spitzer is breaking the law if he moves forward with a plan to give undocumented immigrants access to driver's licenses.

Calling the plan "reckless," Tedisco promised to file suit against Spitzer this month, saying the governor would be violating a state law requiring driver's license applicants to have a Social Security number.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Elliot Spitzer’s next directive orders the NY State Police to wear brown shirts.

NY Governor Wants Illegals to Get Driver Licenses

The revelation that the 9/11 hijackers had accumulated 35 driver licenses from states with lax requirements led Republican Governor George Pataki to issue an executive order in 2002 requiring driver’s license applicants to submit Social Security numbers, to prove that they were legal residents, or provide proof that they were ineligible for a Social Security card.

Under Democratic Governor Eliot Spitzer’s new policy, foreign passports and birth certificates will be enough to obtain a New York driver’s license. Spencer claims this will make the state’s roads safer.

“Look, people have to drive,” Spitzer explained. “It’s better that they get licenses than drive without them. It’ll be safer, at least that way they’ll have to pass a test.”

Spitzer pointed out that while they are getting their licenses, these “undocumented workers” could also register to vote. “These hard-working Latinos are currently underrepresented in our government,” Spitzer said. “They pay taxes. They have needs. They should be brought into the system instead of being forced to live in the shadows.”

I lived in Rensselaer County, I can say with this article we have one of the great thirteen County Clerks, in Frank Merola.

Reminds me of the 13 original colonies.

I wrote a letter to him Tonight to thank him personally and express my sympathy for the criticism he can expect from liberal ilk. If you live under one of the “original thirteen clerks” >I suggest you take a moment, say thank you, and offer your ongoing support.
