Understand this: We're talking about POLITICIANS and POLITICAL parties in a DEMOCRACY. By their self-preservationist natures, both politicians and parties respond to issues that they think will help them get elected, and don't respond to issues that don't seem to make a difference in whether they get elected. If we want politicians that completely refuse to represent our values on:

1. Sanctity of Life
2. Sanctity of Marriage
3. Constitutional Judges (not activist ones)
4. Gun Rights
5. Fiscal Issues and Federalism

Then, by all means, we should vote for Rudy under any circumstance. But if we do, then the Republican party will continue to morph into a party that succumbs to values that are exactly the opposite of our own. If we vote for Rudy anyway, then we've trained the elephant into thinking that it's okay to step on our right foot as long as he doesn't touch our left.

If Rudy is the nominee, and if there is an upright third-party candidate, the Republican party can go ahead and watch my vote jump ship. Yes, it would be unfortunate if our elephant won't be able to perform in the circus this next term, but the hell if I'm going to let him step on my right foot!

A while back, maybe about a year and a half ago, I stated here on FR that I was very open to possibly voting for the Constitution Party in the next presidential election if the Republican nominee wasn’t who I wanted it to be. The overwhelming majority of responses from others ranged from telling me that I am naive if I want to throw my vote away, to I am part of the problem and would contribute to handing over the country to the party of Kennedy, Clinton, Reid, and Pelosi by voting third party, to I am an outright idiot and not a ‘true’ conservative. Now, apparently, voting third party and handing the country over to the party of Kennedy, Clinton, etc., is perfectly fine and voting for Rudy if he happens to be the Republican nominee is out of the question.

I’m not saying that you were one of the posters who went on about this in any way. Frankly, I don’t remember and don’t care too much to go searching back that far, and I am only posting this as a response to what you wrote because yours was the most recent post on this discussion that has taken your view. It’s just amusing to me how the tone here on FR has so drastically changed for some. I wonder if those people who had so matter of factly said those things before still feel the same way now as they did then.
