Great point. Do we as a taxpayer have any say anymore? Right here in Minneapolis, the highest bidder was approved to rebuild the collapsed 35W bridge, under great secrecy. Local contracters are trying to contest it.
In a neighboring suburb, the council is going ahead with plans to expand a beautiful little town, with great opposition from the residents.
But let a billionaire say he wants our money and presto - it's done.
Because they didn't want to put the guy on the street?

I abhor what he did. But these councils in most cases are corrupt scumbags. Hopefully this will make councils nationwide think twice about oppressing their constituents. Maybe next time the gun will be aimed at them. One time in this country corrupt politicians were dragged out of town halls and tarred and feathered, a practice of which I heartily approve. Today the creeps in DC and elsewhere fear no one except lobbyists. They couldn't not care less about the people.
