“O.P.E.I.U., the Office and Professional Employees International Union, is a part of the AFL-CIO, one of the largest unions in the world. AFL-CIO is an umbrella organization of national and international unions, many of which have historically socialist roots, dating from the heyday of onshore domestic industrial production and overt socialist agitation.”

Unions take from many wage earners and tax payers, to give to an elite few.

“The Union” just did this to the company I work for. But it was even worse, they had a bunch of illegals who couldn’t even speak English out there holding the picket signs. (Does wonders for low blood pressure).

"Could you file a formal complaint with the National Labor Relations Board?"

That may be the way to go, although any complaint would probably have to come from the actual union member. I'm not sure though. It wouldn't hurt for someone who was there and heard the info first-hand from the union member, to call the NLRB and see if they can file a complaint or pass on the info. If anyone knows a lawyer who deals specifically with labor laws, which include Unions, it wouldn't hurt to contact them for advice.

I do know that several years ago, while I was working for the State of New York, I had won a grievance against the state which involved them reimbursing me money they had taken from my paycheck. Nine months after I'd won the case, the union I belonged to (Correction Officers), hadn't done anything to secure me my funds. I kept getting the run around and finally filed a complaint with NY State's Commission on Employee Relations. Basically, I had already resolved the issue myself, but followed up with the complaint, and both the Union and State representatives who attended the hearing were admonished by the judge for their failure to guarantee me my award. I also liked it that the Union lawyer, who was there representing the Union's interest, ended up being several minutes late to the hearing, which pissed off the Judge big-time, and it only enforced my claims of the lackadaisical attitude they exhibted in failing to make sure I had gotten the money due me.

No union has the right to mandate attendance at any rally, whether it be for union events or non-union events, such as the Walter Reed protests. I firmly believe that this is an unethical practice and quite possibly a violation of the members' rights.

It has no right to force or intimidate union members to do its bidding on political issues. “”

IF you think this is new, think again.
Imremember being told how to vote when I was working a machinists union job when I was 21. I am now just short of 68. I was really angry, but I just nodded and said- yeah, sure. Then I went into the polling place and voted what I wanted. Their choices for me were entirely different than what I voted. STILL are.

Hopefully unions will soon bankrupt all the companies they work for so we will be rid of them.

Hardest part will be getting the parasites off the government dole..

The Nurses Union at Eastern Maine Medical Center is going to hold a one day strike. It would serve them right if we could get a lot of Military Mom’s to counter protest them. The Union deserves to be freeped until the Union leaves our troops alone!

You did not read very well. The person in the union is a she, not a he. I do not know what union you were, but know you are wrong about them not using threats and force to make the members do as they are told.

Good work, Albion. I think Michelle Malkin would take this up in a heartbeat... it’s her “turf,” right? If not on her blog yet, I will e-mail.

I DESPISE unions... don’t get me started. Every anti-war, pro-illegals “march” here in Los Angeles includes heavy contingents of union members wearing the required t-shirt and carrying the factory-produced signs.

I will NOT take a union job, as when I worked at the UC as an “office professional,” I discovered the dues monies were going into PACs, Democrat campaigns, etc. Government agencies in CA are “closed shops.” In this state, it’s the S.E.I.U. that is raking in the money for the Commies.

The union reps do NOTHING for workplace safety, nor harassment grievances, etc., but only drive the hard bargain for higher wages, i.e., more revenue for union HQ.

And yes, to contradict a former poster, the union delegates their workplace thugs to mandate participation in political activities. I know this from my own experience.
