The Democrats feel totally comfortable outright lying & manipulating facts by pulling select words like "Phony Soldier" from Rush's statement on Jesse MacBeth. This comfort level is reinforced daily with the help of Liberal Big Media friends and attack dogs like Move-on.org and Media Matters. As long as they stay off Fox News and don't talk to anyone from the Washington Times they are among friends.

Liberals are extremely insecure.
As you pointed out, they need constant reinforcement - so much so that their Presidential candidates cannot even go on FOX News to debate issues. They need warm fuzzy stroking from synchophants to put concrete in their fictitious walls.
The problem is - truth keeps knocking on their walls, and they don't like it one bit.
