Sportswriter Works Anti-Ann Coulter Shot Into Marion Jones Story
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

There's no media nook safe from liberal bias, not even sports reporting

Ever heard of New York Daily News sports writer Filip Bondy? Neither have I. But browsing through Google News this afternoon I saw a link to a story by Bondy that caught my attention: " Marion Jones drags others into selfish, steroid mess".

The gist is that it was selfish of Jones to elbow her way onto the 2004 4x100-meter Olympic relay team. Since she knew she had been taking steroids, she must also have realized that any medal the team won was in danger of being forfeited. Good point.

But then, from out of left field, this:

Everybody wants to like Marion Jones. She is personable, pretty, bright and has been surrounded by treacherous, parasitic men most of her adult life. You wouldn't wish C.J. Hunter, Tim Montgomery and Trevor Graham on Ann Coulter.
Nice.

So who is Filip Bondy? A bit of Googling reveals that before his current gig at the New York Daily News:
Bondy was the international sportswriter for The New York Times. He appears regularly as a columnist for MSNBC. Bondy has written three sports books-on basketball, soccer and figure skating . . . Bondy holds a Master's degree in communication from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin.
Figures.

Are you kidding me, between the limp wristed, never played a sport in their lives, Monday morning quarterbacking and working in Bush/Republican bashing in just about every sports story no matter how much of a stretch I rarely read any sports writers. I’ll read a game summary but almost know “editorial” articles. Just shut up and give me the damn score.

Am I a bit slow or should I be expected to know who the heck C.J. Hunter, Tim Montgomery and Trevor Graham are?

Regardless of who they are, though, I still don't see what Ann possibly has to do with this story (other than perhaps in the writer's leftist 'mind').

What’s the difference between Marion Jones & male steroid abusers? She’s a girl & therefore a victim? Where’s the writer’s evidence that the men in Marion Jones’ life suggested that she take steroids? Looks like a major assumption to me!

Hunter was her former husband, Montgomery a former coach, both of whom up to the necks in the steroid scandal.

...who the heck C.J. Hunter, Tim Montgomery and Trevor Graham are?

I can help you with the first 2: CJ Hunter was an Olympic Shot Putter & Jones' husband. Tim Montgomery was an World-Class sprinter & former holder of the World record at 100-meters. Montgomery is the father of Jones' child after her divorce from Hunter, but I don't think they were ever married.

CJ Hunter was sent home from the Sydney Olympics when he failed a drug test.

...Oh, and Tim Montgomery is currently under suspension for steroid use. His world record has since been lowered.

Rules and all, but I bet if she debated him she could make him cry after the third topic.

Are you kidding? The journalists in the NASCAR press rooms are almost all left of George McGovern! I know full well that they think that being a flaming lefty is the “educated” thing to be, and they look surprised that an educated, articulate Conservative can indeed exist.

Three years ago Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling was allegedly interested in helping to campaign for President Bush.

He was reportedly discouraged from doing so by Sox ownership.

Since then I have heard Mike Lynch a channel 5 Sports reporter several times speak in derogatory terms concerning Schilling who has a weekly radio stint here locally because the man is financially compensated for his time.

Mike Lynch makes a very decent living as a parasite who rides around the country watching ball games in good seats for free, and he is paid for that ridiculous job which even I could do by reading wire reports.

The modern media is as corrupt as anyone could ever imagine, and sports reporters are very very effective in marginalizing conservative thinking in our country.

“...and he is paid for that ridiculous job which even I could do by reading wire reports.”

I watched a whole room full of reporters covering major auto races by watching it on TV, the same broadcast that you and I watch at home. The “pit notes” that are circulated around the press room are usually available online, so yes, one can “cover” an auto race at home.

This should surprise nobody. Anyone who has been into weight training could easily tell Jones was juicing. The total change in her body from the prior Olympics could have happened no other way. An athlete who was already in peak condition could not have added that much lean muscle mass with no extra fat in just 3 or even 4 years. Also, the acne on the back and the change in face shape are all classic signs of juicing. It was soooooo obvious.

“He appears regularly as a columnist for MSNBC.”

That resume ranks just under being a columnist for the Podunk U student newspaper.
