Rep. Jo Ann Davis (R-VA), 57, died Saturday morning after a two-year battle with breast cancer. She had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and had a reoccurrence earlier this year.
Gov. Tim Kaine (R-VA) issued the following statement:
Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis made history when she became the first female Republican elected to the House of Representatives from the Commonwealth in 2000. She inspired Virginians as she battled breast cancer, while continuing to serve the Commonwealth. Anne and I are saddened by her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends today.

So Kaine is a Republican now?
Rest in Peace
She’s no longer in pain. God bless her family. RIP dear one!

I heard this on Fox. Isn’t the gov D, not R? Who will he appoint?
A terrible loss. She was a great woman.
BTW, Someone should let MSNBC know that Tim Kaine is a D-VA not R-VA.
God bless her and her family.
Kaine can only appoint senators, which he may have to do if Warner leaves before his term is up next year. Congressmen are replaced in special elections.
Thanks! I realize now that you have said it, that I knew that! DUH!!! It is in the Constitution, I do believe!
You are correct Gov Kaine does however get to set the date of the election, but right now my thought and prayers are with Rep Davis’s family.
