MOSUL, Iraq Iraqi Army Soldiers, working in unison with Iraqi Police, acted swiftly on tips from local residents to discover and ultimately destroy a cache containing significant explosives in Mosul Oct. 5.
The Iraqi Army and the Iraqi Police are again credited with doing an exceptional job of sharing information and quickly reacting to intelligence as it was received and validated, said Maj. Roderick Cunningham, spokesperson for the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. This particular tip led to a large amount of explosive material being removed before it could be utilized by the enemy to attack Iraqi and Coalition Forces.
A Mosul citizen called the tip in to area police which prompted soldiers from the 2nd IA Division to search and discover IED-making material.
Mosul police assisted in securing the area as the IA took action.
As a result of the information, almost two dozen sticks of dynamite, 17 large canisters of homemade explosives, several hand grenades, blasting caps, wire and assorted batteries, timers and tools were discovered. ISF also discovered a fully operational PG-18 anti-armor rocket.
The 2nd IA Bomb Disposal Company was called in and destroyed the cache in place.
No ISF were injured or killed during the operation.
These are the signs that Iraq is stabilizing.
Naw, can't be. I read a throw away line in an AP story that the Iraqi police were in a state of collapse. (And I always believe what the AP tells me.)
Don’t you love it when a plan comes together?
Thanks for the post!
Whoops...tagline cut off Mr Reed’s last name.
