Federal agents detained six suspected illegal immigrants Thursday morning in the first multiple arrest of Latinos publicized by the Maury County Sheriffs Department since it was sued in federal court.
The arrests were spurred by a complaint from a Maury County construction business owner who said the men used false documents to obtain employment, Sheriff Enoch George said. He declined to release the business name.
Hopefully, what this will do is encourage other businesses if theyve got illegals working for them to give us a call, George said.
But Catalina Nieto, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition, said she thinks the sheriff is attempting to bully small business owners into breaking federal employment laws and enticing them to racially profile workers. Members of the coalition held a rally in August to protest Georges efforts to combat illegal immigration in Maury County.
We think this is basically an immigrant witch hunt that encourages suspicion of any worker who looks or sounds different, Nieto said.
The arrests were made about 10:30 a.m. by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, authorities said. Deputies sent a squad car to accompany immigration agents during the arrest. The men were being held at the Maury County Jail Thursday.
Authorities said they have continued to follow up on citizen complaints and detain suspected illegal immigrants since a federal lawsuit was filed July 5 alleging immigration agents and deputies deprived illegal immigrants of their constitutional rights by conducting unauthorized searches.
Capt. Nathan Johns said seven suspected illegal immigrants working at a construction site in northern Maury County were detained about a week ago by immigration agents after the Sheriffs Department received complaints from citizens. Efforts to confirm this Thursday evening with a federal spokeswoman were unsuccessful.
We are going to follow up on those complaints just like we follow up on all complaints, Johns said. If we find that information to be true, we pass it on to the federal authorities.
At least 90 suspected illegal immigrants have been detained this year in Maury County. In July, a Nashville immigration attorney sued the department and the U.S. government in federal court. The suit alleges deputies and federal immigration agents illegally entered the homes of illegal immigrants without warrants and detained them unlawfully.
In an affidavit filed with the court, special agent Jonathan A. Hendrix said the illegal immigrants consented to the searches.

They wouldn’t want to mess with CM...trust me on this much!
It seems the politicians are mostly the one’s screwing us over the most on this issue. Have you noticed that?
ICE, ICE Baby! Good!
There are illegals working on my husband’s union job, laborers hired not by the union hall, but by the companies doing union jobs. But without union approval the illegals wouldn’t be there. They are filthy and disgusting, depositing human waste wherever they please. Nice conditions to work under. Round ‘em all up and ship ‘em out NOW!
zat so?

bttt!
Noticed that long ago, yep.
We need to boot their sorry @$$es out of office too!
I’m looking at a 12 year time-frame...no kidding. Lots of things need to be done, but it’s very hard to keep us cats hearded together sometimes. You DO NOT want my predictions for ‘08, but my thoughts of course lead me to the 12-year mark. Whole lotta things that could be accomplished.
Yeah....I’d say less than 12 years from now.
We’re cooked.
Gotta sign off for the night; it’s 2 a.m. here...need some sleep.
See you later!
go git ‘em!

Niters...;0)
Night, nic - sleep well! Got a lot of catchin’ up, tomorrow.
niters
When they make heavy use of welfare, they take from Americans who are in desparate need. I’m not referring to what freepers typically call lazy, non-working folks. I’m talking about disabled and elderly Americans who cannot get the help needed, even after working a lifetime and paying into Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare. Non-citizens, including the benefits drawn by illegal alien families with an anchor baby and illegal aliens who scam the system by working ‘under the table’ AND collecting welfare (2 ‘income’ families) are draining the system.
I became ill and disabled after having worked for 25 years. I applied for SSD benefits. Because there are more than 10,000 people applying in Ohio, it took more than 3 1/2 years for me to be determined ‘disabled’ by a judges bench decision. In the meantime, I lived off of my 401k for as long as it lasted (paid big $s for COBRA) and was then forced to ask for ‘welfare’ assistance. (but for the Grace of God...a truly humbling experience) Funds are so limited with the majority going to these families with children, that an American adult, disabled or elderly, is expected to live on $115 a month cash to cover housing, utilities, and other expenses. Funds for housing assistance have been depleted by these families, no help available for over 3 years now and applications are closed, even for the elderly & disabled. Now that I am finally receiving SSD, which is based on my 25 years of work (10 yrs required for an American, govt would give illegals after 18 mos), I and other Americans with disabilities, stand to lose, as illegal aliens and our illegal alien-loving government, threaten to destroy what’s left of our SS system.
Instead of cutting ‘entitlement’ benefits for the elderly and disabled, we MUST put an end to anchor citizenship and, undeserving/unearned, Federal/State benefits for illegal aliens. I’m passionate about it because my life depends on it.
“The question now is will they be deported?”
Frankly, I’d rather see them detained until the border is effectively secured. I wonder how much $$$ we are spending deporting illegal aliens, only to have them return in a matter of days? When Duncan Hunter is elected and the border is effectively secured in 6 months...then deport them.
Great.
It seems your work is bearing fruit.
