Like any other ability or disability it is what you do with it that counts.

Having been a “watcher of mankind” for the past 40 or so years, I have some observations (admittedly subjective, at least on the surface):

1. If we can’t agree on what is, or is not a component of “IQ” how can we agree as to how it can be measured?

2. “Functional intelligence” seems to be as much a component in living as raw “IQ”. By that I mean that people deliberately (perhaps intuitively) stay within the bounds of their skill set, and can and do excel within those bounds, thereby compensating for low “IQ”. Does this not imply a complexity to the process of measurement of “IQ” not readily recognized by academics who only view intelligence through the lens of their own learned perspective?

3. As to “nature versus nurture” it appears that each of us has a range of potential as to intelligence. Nature gives us the range and nurture controls the intelligence within that range. It appears that the ability to move up (or down) within this range is limited to the formative years. My definition of the formative years is 0 to roughly 25.
