"Bad law in my estimation. That'll force people to use lighter bows than they might and could result in more injured animals and fewer clean kills."

Idaho is funny that way. Take 'traditionalist" to a new level. I think some of it is ignorance at the State Fish and Game level. Those that set the rules sometimes don't really know what they are talking about. They banned inline muzzle loaders this year. Traditional only. I am not a blackpowder guy so I am not sure what all they changed this year but it made a whole class of blackpower guns unusable during the muzzleloader season.

They will eventually change the bow hunting law to allow higher let off. For now, this is doable. There is some great hardware out there that meets the requirements. They add to that requirement a minimum pull and a minimum arrow weight. And they weigh them in the field if they think they have cause.

Idaho has very stringent education and equipment regulations, and they enforce them. No optics, no mechanically opening heads, no lighted arrows or light emitting sights. It works for now. Keeps the bow hunting season open for everyone with certain limits on hardware. They have very liberal hunting seasons for bow hunting, which makes it well worthwhile to participate.

Great little video. Never used the Guillotine broadheads, they look seriously wicked though! The way I wasted 2 regular hunting arrows on turkey last year had me swearing off hunting for $2 worth of turkey meat with $40 arrows. But I just had to do it yesterday when the guy I worked with dragged me off for a little hunting time.

Crap..!

I know 12 guy's just off the top of my head who could pull that bow she's shooting.

Most folks around here that shoot compound bows...are pulling 65-70 lbs right now. The let-off is usually 70-80% so when the bows roll-over...they are only holding 14 lbs of a 70 lb weighted bow with 80% let-off.

Now...if she had a long bow...or a recurve..THAT would be a horse of a different color.

I could pull that bow, take me a month of hard work to be competent to use it though.

But we aren't talking about a 220 lb guy using that bow. We are talking about a gal who is half that.

Most everyone here in this part of Idaho is a bow hunter. I doubt that there is more than a couple who could competently shoot an 85 pound compound.

That’s about the impression I get, i.e. that in any one state there might be a dozen or so people who could shoot something like that.

I'm 190 lbs....and like I said...I could find 12 guy's tonight that could pull that bow.

Would they choose to hunt with it? Nope.

But they could pull it..and accurately shoot it for a few shots. I know I could.

You seem to have people who don't keep up with archery writing all the bowhunting laws in Idaho.

The biggest innovation of the last 10 years or so is the HCA SpeedPro arrow. Your bow would gain 50 - 60 fps with them, they penetrate as well as anything else out there and are generally tougher than nails, and shooting them doesn't hurt bows like yours. Turns out the thing you really need to prevent damage to bows is stiffness and not weight. They always assumed an arrow had to be heavy to be stiff but HCA has disproven that. 60 Fps is gigantic; it's the difference between killing a deer at 27 yards and watching an arrow fly under or over him. Shame you couldn't use them in a state with minimum arrow weight laws.

Likewise with mechanical broadheads. The Aftershock mechanical has nearly made firearms obsolete for hunting; they claim they're seeing ten second kills on cape buffalo and in tests involving shooting through .5" of plywood, the Aftershock was basically the only broadhead of any sort which passed the test, opening on the far side of the plywood as if nothing had happened. In other words, there could be an animal with .5" plywood for skin and the Aftershock mechanical would kill him easily. Again you couldn't use it in a place which doesn't allow it.

And I would let her.....too.

LOL!!

This whole thread is a hoot....

I'd bet about 3/4's of the posters don't even own a compound bow.....know how they work, or have ever shot one.

That should change. The compound bow is a good answer to a number of modern problems, e.g. too many deer, too many pit bulls, too many snakes etc. etc. in areas where you can't be shooting firearms.

That’s a compound bow. Anyone can pull it.

ROFLOL!!

If by "pulling" you mean dragging it along the ground....then I'll agree with you.
