Nobody wants to reward a lawbreaker.

Nobody but The President of The United States of America.
And plenty of Senators.
And plenty of Congress-persons.
And mayors/city councils of "sanctuary cities".
And at least some editorialists of The Wall Street Journal.
And many immigration lawyers.
And plenty of rich, influential folks in agriculture.
And plenty of other "small business" and "big business" folks.
And virtually all the people I know in academia.

I'll stop and leave an incomplete list as this is getting too
painful to contemplate.
As someone wiser than me once said:
"Man is an animal that only stand so much truth".

“Duh, when exactly did NM become a swing state? They have a socialist governor and always vote for a dim. When did they become a swing state?”

That quote you cited is from the article, but Bush did win New Mexico in 2004: 373,075 to 364,822:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/vote2004/nationalelectionresultsbystate.aspx?oi=P&rti=G&cn=1&tf=l

2000 was extremely close, and Gore won by 286,783 to 286,417:

Wait, I’ve only read the first sentence and I already disagree. Remember back when we were debating “comprehensive immigration reform?” I perused liberal and conservative sites alike and found almost everyone, liberal and conservative, was opposed to amnesty. It actually was one of the least partisan issues around. Nobody wants to reward a lawbreaker.

In the entire history of this country, I have never found and issue or a time when so many of the American people were in agreement and so many of our elected representatives who really don't care what we think.

No other issue has polled consistently as this one has year after year to end illegal immigration.

Our beloved representative form of government has become a Corporate Oligarchy.

The only difference between this and imported slaves, is that the same robber barons have figured out how to get the taxpayer to subsidize it. They're not stupid.

FYI, Legal Immigration in sufficient numbers can also destroy a Country and it’s Culture.

I’m moving to Mexico. I’m just crossing the border at Laredo with my wife and son in our Subaru wagon and moving down there. To hell with regulations and immigration law. The weather’s nice, my money will go far, and they need teachers at their schools, so I’m just doing the jobs that the Mexicans won’t do themselves. Once I get established, I’ll start raising hell about the lack of English in the schools. I’ll call the federal police racists if they mess with me. I’ll use every single bit of government aid I can get my hands on. If I need a national ID number, I’ll invent one or use the number from old Pedro Gonzales down there in the cemetery. Maybe I’ll even find a little lovely thing who looks a lot like Halle Berry or Salma Hayek and produce a dozen quasi-Mexican kids and make sure that all they speak is English. Come join me. Land is cheap down there. Let’s flood their entire country with Americans. Once there are 20 million of us there, we can gently remind them of the story of Fremont and the boys if they give us lip about being illegal immigrants. We can even call ourselves “The American Race” after the group “La Raza.”

You'll be dead in a week in Mexico if you try it.

“You’ll be dead in a week in Mexico if you try it.”

Maybe not dead but with that attitude a lot of prison time.

Love your concept. Would it not be wonderful if we could overwhelm Mexico the way their people have done us.

But, unless we went en mass we would be picked off as we crossed the border, either by the Federalistas, the drug runners, or the coyotes moving others this way.

We definitely would not be treated as the illegals have been treated here. We are the ones providing funds to promote our own demise.

My second line was going to be, “or wish you were dead”.

Sorry, perhaps “nobody” was a bit of hyperbole.

And I’m in academia and anti-amnesty. But I suppose you only know me “virtually” too. Ahem. Nevermind.

“Sorry, perhaps “nobody” was a bit of hyperbole.”

And my prior reply was surely more than a bit of hyperbole.
I apologize if “sounded” that way.
(I’m still in recovery from watching Los Angeles being swallowed up
by the Illegal Immigrant Swarm...and am now ticked to see the Swarm has
sent some of their drones my way when I moved to Mid-Missouri
two years ago!)

AuntB was right the first time.

The white boy would be dead, dead, dead, the first time he causes a commotion, and they think nobody's watching.

The kiddies here don't understand that it's a different world there.

When I was there in 58 a person (the entire family was Mexican Federal Police) I was close to told me that he could oll anyone except an american citizen and not a word would be said.

Over the years, added up, I have spent close to 3 years of my life in that hell hole and have been close to people very high up and met one President and 3 governors and have a pretty good idea how that country operates.

It’s not what you know, it’s who you know!

Satire!!! This was satire!!!! Of course I’d be dead meat in a week. Probably a day. Remind me to never, ever stray outside the rigid lines of literalism again.

Nah, don’t remind me. I’ll do it again someday.

Then you know that in the last 30 years, that restriction has broken down, along with their prior respect and fear of the police in the United States.

They now regard us as easy prey.

And I have family members who were recently proof of that.

Yes, I thought it was satire. I thought you did great. I didn’t think I had to say so. There, I said so. Better?

Kind of like one of my "Captain's Quotable's":

Immigration without assimilation means the death of this nation.

Folks had better wake up to reality.

U.S. Constitution, Article 4 Section 4:

"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government,

and shall protect each of them against Invasion;"

Invasion: \In*va"sion\, n. [L. invasio: cf. F. invasion. See Invade.] [1913 Webster]

1. The act of invading; the act of encroaching upon the rights or possessions of another; encroachment; trespass.

“Immigration without assimilation means the death of this nation.”
New tagline with credit.
Excellent phrase.

Emphasizing the “culture war” makes us look like a bunch of Theodore Bilbo supporters.

Of course you're right - In the current political environment the truth and $1.50 gets you a cup of coffee, only.
