- WE'D love to see a debate on the war in Iraq between Kid Rock and Sean Penn. Rock didn't name Penn in his interview with Penthouse magazine, but he seemed to be aiming at the actor when he said, "These kids [U.S. soldiers] are very young and a lot of them think people who oppose the war are against them. You have to be very careful with what you talk about - especially when you are some Hollywood [bleep]er.

Any 19-year-old U.S. Marine is more an adult than “Kid Rock.” But thanks for playing ...
Why do you have your “Poopie Pants” on.?
And a nice evening to you, too.
I think his characterizing our soldiers as “kids,” when they’ve done more with their lives than it seems he ever will (Pamela Anderson, anyone?) is daffy.
When I saw the story, I was hoping he took the kind of shot at Penn as he did at Tommy Lee a couple weeks ago.
And that’s nice, as far as it goes. But the “kids” angle is Cindy Sheehan’s shtick - “They’re too young to be responsible, poor brainwashed babies.”
Points for good intentions to Mr. “Kid.”
As a retired NCO, I refer to these guys as “kids” every day, no disrespect to them intended.
I think most of us are in awe of how young they are to be seeking such a heavy responsibility. Look at their faces when you see them on TV, and feel no guilt as you ask Almighty God to “look after those kids who are performing such a noble mission in defense of our liberty”.
So Mote It Be.
Excellent point ... but you’re a retired NCO (thank you for serving!), not an entertainment figure.
Soldiers have always been young, but adults in the context of their society. In our time, it sometimes seems like soldiers are the only adults of their age!
My oldest daughter wants to join the Air Force when she finishes high school, and go to Iraq. (Scares me to death!) She wants to be part of Something Big. What’s a drunk entertainer compared to that?
Go easy on Kid Rock... He is extremely supportive of the troops and has done a lot of good work on their behalf.
Supporting the troops in practical ways is good.
Welcome to the posting world of FR. If you have an opinion about anything it shall get flamed. :^)
You obviously have it in for MR. ROCK, perhaps with cause...I don’t know... but you are making far too much of the ‘kid’ remark.
I believe a former NCO can handle a few loony tunes here on Free Republic.
OH, for heaven’s sake. I have nothing personal against the person.
I just think a United States soldier, airman, Marine, or sailor, irrespective of age or gender, is more of a man than he is. He obviously agrees, or he wouldn’t be calling himself “Kid” in his late 30’s.
Kid Rock visited the troops in Iraq for the Christmas holidays. That is alot more than 99% of the people in the US have done.
Glad to see the bushes over there. LOL
How would 99% of American citizens even get an opportunity to visit the troops? They’re not exactly shipping over planeloads of average citizens to say, “Good job, y’all.”
Most regular people are doing something at home.
