Republican, Democrat gang up on incumbent (James Sensenbrenner of WI)

CEDARBURG, Wis. -- Explanations are required when you are a conservative Republican, your friend is a Democrat, and you tell people you are running a joint campaign to unseat Rep. James Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin, one of the longest-serving Republicans in Congress.

First, there is the matter of the joint campaign.

Jim Burkee is the Republican, the one wearing the red tie in the publicity photos. Jeff Walz is the Democrat, in the blue tie. The fellow professors at Concordia University, north of Milwaukee, are raising money jointly and promising 100 debates in 300 days before the September 2008 party primaries, whether Sensenbrenner shows up or not.

Odds are, he won't.

The concept of a joint candidacy is so novel that the Federal Election Commission doesn't have a policy on it; the idea is that if one doesn't get Sensenbrenner, the other will.

How exactly does a ‘joint-candidacy’ work?

It is joint because they both want to eliminate the republican.

I have heard NOTHING about this and live in his district. Nobody I know is clamoring for change. Sensenbrenner was one of a few who saw that Katrina relief would be a recipr for fraud and voted against it. He has championed the ‘real id’ act to police illegal immigration and fight terrorism. He is a millionaire many times over because he is an heir to the kimberly-clark company. I am curious why our local paper has not picked up on this and I had to read about it in a seattle paper.

Why is it Statism?

You need to support your declaration with evidence or a logical argument if you want to convince anyone!

I could not disagree with you more. Without a consitent way to identify citizens, no country can survive in the long term. Social Security fraud is rampant, forged documents are everywhere, and the safety of all Americans is put at risk. If I travel outside the US, I need a passport, is it not logical to require some verifiable form of ID to board a domestic plane, apply for a drivers license, or open a checking account? Undocumente foreigners are overrunning our country, 38 million illegals are overcrowding our prisons, bankrupting our health care system, overcrowding our schools, causing carnage on our roads, and without a way of truly identifying them, we ares spitting into the wind as far as cleaning up the mess. I am of libertarian bent, but things are out of control and getting worse. Sensenbrenner is attempting to regain some semblance of control
