Abortion Ban Will Never Happen; Pro-Life Movement Needs New Plan
North Star Writers Group ^ | October 8, 2007 | Dan Calabrese

It’s time for the fight against abortion to move to a new front. An honest look at the landscape suggests that the longtime goal of the pro-life movement – the banning of abortion – is never going to be achieved.

We need to try something else.

I believe a fetus is a human being who deserves protection under the law from being killed. But if the goal is to save the lives of unborn children – and it should be – we need to look at our primary line of attack and see what it has achieved, and what it is likely to achieve in the future.

Given the premise of the article that abortion will never be banned yet lives need to be saved, then this is what needs to be done and can be achievable.

- No more federal money for abortions

- The State cannot give abortions to minors without parental notification of both the girl and the boy.

- The girl, boy, and their respective parents must all meet to discuss the issue with counselors.

That's not a solve all in the above but it puts responsibility of pregnancy into the hands of those involved. It's a start.

And I would like to add there is one more thing that can be done. DO NOT LET HILLARY INTO THE WHITEHOUSE. She will 100% federally fund abortions in her healthcare scam and appoint abortion-mill Supreme Court judges.

In the short term, he’s right, but in the long term lots of things can happen. We should never give up the goal of legal protection for the unborn. Ultimately, we can win that one, but not if we give it up as a long term goal.

I have long agreed with the main premise of this article: abortion will never be banned. That is why I have advocated a competing right for males: the paper abortion.

I think legal recognition of personhood is the right way to go. It would shift the debate from a woman's body to who is the unborn and does it have rights? We won't make much progress if we are seen as anti-woman and motivated by a desire to run her life. We'd be better off arguing our understanding of when life begins has grown significantly since 1973 and now its time to revisit the question of personhood.

As it stands right now, someone renting a home has more legal rights than an unborn, and has an extensive system of due process before they can be evicted. If abortion were legally treated like evicting someone in the middle of a harsh winter, that would be a giant step towards improving the lot of the unborn.

***The girl, boy, and their respective parents must all meet to discuss the issue with counselors***

If both kids and both sets of parents get involved, the baby will live.

BUT, If a government school counselor gets involved, the baby will die.

Electing Presidents that will nominate pro-life judges is the only way to fight this battle.

I agree it's has to more than just some counselor. I want the boy, girl, and parents involved. I think this will cause seconds thoughts on even having sex. There has to be responsibility brought into the act. And it's a good age to teach kids responsibility for the bigger world ahead.

You can rest assured of one thing...advocates of abortion will never let us shift the focus off "a woman's body."

They don't want to end abortion but they have NO answer to the question of the unborn as a person. Ask a Leftist about it and you get a blank stare.

All of your solutions are good and would be voted in by the electorate of every state -

but, the courts have ruled every one of them as a burden and prohibitive barrier to “obtain health care”.

And, since the courts, being filled with the elite of our society, know better than the electorate, we should all just shut up and live by their dictates.

That is the very route that has failed.

their plan should be, taking back our schools, teaching abstinance as an option, and putting back a social stigma on being a under 18 pregnant woman.

That is just sooooo scary. I don't care if it's abortion or some other type of surgery/operation, the State has no right to touch my kid without notifying me. In Texas they still have to notify the parent of a minor having an abortion. At least I think so????

Actually, it seems to me that a lot of abortions probably happen because of the stigma. Ironically, the lessening of the stigma may reduce the number of abortions.
