Confession of a Recovering Democrat

By Burt Prelutsky

I grew up in a home in which Franklin Roosevelt was regarded as a saint. Is it any wonder that it took me so many years before I finally saw the light? As a rule, I don’t approve of people who lay their own shortcomings at the feet of their parents, but when I realize that for no other reason than the way I was raised that I actually voted for Jimmy Carter, it’s awfully tempting to blame my folks.

But whoever is at fault, it is certainly high time to acknowledge how much harm was done to this country during FDR’s administrations, and how much spin left-wing historians have put on his record. For instance, he has often been credited with keeping America from going Communist during the Great Depression. But you might say the same about the leaders of Germany, Italy, and Spain...

The AWOL RNC and Republican Presidential Candidates should be targeting Reagan Democrats who are disgusted with just how far left their party has gone.

Shake his hand for me, would you? He deserves all the kudos available for that one.

That was super. I kept in mind all the rabid Liberals I know during his whole speech. He described each one exactly.

Actually, I know plenty of Conservatives who display all the shades of Conservatism on every issue.

I know NO Liberals except rabid liberals. They were all done figuring things out before they left HS. They question nothing and have NOT taken responsibility for discernment of ANY kind ...about anything, since they left HS. They all think of themselves as having complete, final, intact views about everything and no events or ideas alter their thinking about anything. Amazing, arent’ they! Liberalism in the US is a replacement for religion, it is a moral/ethical/psychological/academic dead end which permits of NO inquiry or doubt. There is a real intellectual atrophy at the core of all their views and for some reason, I don’t know why, they are all hooked on conspiracy theories of every kind.

The thoughts of converted Liberals are always powerful, as they have the clearest vision of the stark differences between left and right, and the sharpest understanding of just how deceived they were.

This author joins others, such as David Horowitz, as very welcome "conservative immigrants". :-)

Pass it on to anyone you like.

I sat open-mouthed at the accuracy of his thesis.

FTA:
Inevitably, liberals turn to a toothless organization such as the League of Nations or the U.N. to settle things peacefully....

This is somewhat inaccurate. Even liberals aren't that dumb. They eventually want to give the UN all the teeth.

Which means, of course, that they will have them. (Or so they imagine.)

I don’t know why, they are all hooked on conspiracy theories of every kind.

I think it may be the only way they can interpret reality when the real world is so diametrically opposed to their world view.

Brilliant! Just brilliant! I’ve been arguing this point with my democrat friends for a long time, and they just DON’T get it. It’s like hitting a brick wall. Great blog! Thanks!
