Then-Sen. Birch Bayh, D-Ind., who was traveling with Kennedy, pulled him from the wreckage but Kennedy suffered a back injury, punctured lung, broken ribs and internal bleeding. Kennedy is not in surgery. Can we return to the regularily scheduled program?

And maybe the short sabbatical gives him some time to reflect on
the legacy of his brothers John and Robert.
I’ve had some major thoracic surgery. And I don’t wish it on anybody.
