Craig Ethics Complaint Backfires on GOP

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Larry who?

Now that scandal-tinged Idaho Sen. Larry Craig has reneged on a pledge to resign this fall, his fellow Republican senators act as though they hardly know him. They want voters to forget him, too.

But they privately acknowledge that an earlier strategy to drive Craig from office has backfired, sticking them with an open-ended ethics investigation likely to keep the issue before the public for months.

Senate Republicans demanded the Ethics Committee inquiry into his sex-sting conviction last summer in hopes of forcing Craig to resign. He essentially called their bluff this month when he reversed his decision to resign Sept. 30 unless a court let him drop his guilty plea.

Now Republicans are powerless to stop a process almost certain to do more political damage to the party in general than to a retiring senator.

"I think they were a little fanciful" in urging the Senate's Select Committee on Ethics to take up the matter, said Stanley Brand, a Washington lawyer for Craig. He called the strong-arm strategy "ethical waterboarding," referring to the controversial interrogation technique.

Some senators had pointedly warned Craig that any ethics committee hearings might be public, and probably televised.

While public hearings are possible, lawyers and Senate staffers familiar with the committee say closed sessions seem more likely. The last public hearings were held 17 years ago, in the "Keating Five" case. The "Keating Five" case was a congressional scandal involving the widespread failure of savings and loans institutions.

I guarantee there won’t be any hearings on this. The Dems have too many skeletons in the closet. If Craig is investigated, then what about Barney Frank and his own prostitution related scandal? Plus all the other leftist homosexuals who undoubtedly have a lot they don’t want exposed. Believe me, the Democrat Party is going to come out of this looking a lot worse than the GOP.

Mitch McConnell can't be very bright to have stumbled into this little fiasco. What it reveals is how incompetent the Senate really is. You don't start into something like this unless you know exactly how it will unfold at every step, much as a lawyer conducts a trial, never asking a question of a witness that he doesn't already know the answer to.

McConnell should be investigating Craig behind the scenes. It is virtually impossible to believe that Craig dosen't have a lifetime of bizarre incidents in his past. There is no way a sixty year old man starts doing this stuff "out of the blue".

Do your f&*^%$ing homework, Mitch, and then tell Craig pictures, files etc are going to be hand delivered to Craig's wife and each one of his children as well as media from coast to coast unless he gets his sorry rear end out of the Senate immediately.

Don't waist our time or the taxpayer's dime with stupid "hearings" on this pervert.

I think of the cop who has nothing better to do than to sit enclosed in a toilet stall all the while smelling the odors that emanate from stalls whose occupants never heard of a courtesy flush. What kind of life or career is that?

When public men's rooms become gay cruising spots and pretty much unusable to the rest of the public, somebody has to clean them up.

Who do you propose do this job?

Let’s say you are a man, and have your daughter with you.

What do you do when the kid has to use the toilet???

He put his hand under the partition separating stalls.

Not only that, but he did it twice.

It seems Republican leadership is just living up to low expectations.

About like Dingy Hairy the Repubs made a critical mistake throwing one of their own to the Democrats Dogs.

“He probably got really excited when Craig began tapping his foot and you’d think the cop would have seen the earphone and realized that the senator was merely keeping time with his IPod.”

Is that the defence? Really? If the GOP keeps this up, we will have President Hillary with all the additional executive powers the Dick and George have accumulated AND a filibuster proof Senate majority. Good thing changing the constitution requires consent of the states and not congress or we might have a President for life.

Thats a tough one.

In the old days I'd take my (very young) daughter to the men's restroom as back then the chances of running into a queer were about as slim as meeting one in the shower while in the U. S. Army.

Most unfortunately times have changed drastically and queers run unfettered throughout our polite society.

He put his hand under the partition separating stalls.

I wonder why someone would put their hand under the partition between them and a perfect stranger?

I realize that homosexuals are weird, but this entire situation is patently ridiculous. Next thing will be the homosexuals in their marvelous agenda will demand separate restrooms for perverts.

I'm for giving all of them an island where they can exercise their unusual, unholy and unhealthy methods of achieving orgasms until the world ends.

I would say that they have created their own little hell within their society. They belong together, but away from normal people who consider their actions an abomination.

We should insure that the island remains remote, however. Shark infested waters would be a definite plus.

Who do you propose do this job?

Not who, but how.

The penalties for filthy behavior in a public restroom should be severe. Of course I believe that the penalties for buying or selling drugs should be death which would end our drug problem quickly.

We're going to have to see, or hear, something more substantial than the tapping of one's foot to attract another pervert's attention. Further, the public needs to be re-educated to the fact that homosexual behavior is not only an untidy way to achieve one's jollies, but is contrary to the laws of God. We have stood by while so-called educators have invited practicing queers into classrooms to explain how beautiful their lives have been as they have been wasted worshipping another's backside.

The facts need to be published. Homosexual activity involves the ingestation of fecal matter, which as one could imagine is indeed unhealthy.

Too, homosexuals have committed the majority of the mass murders in the world. They are, literally, unhinged!

It’s a homo come-on.

Now that's something I didn't know. Or is it shouldn't know?

Having the benefit of an advanced education I have read extensively about the evils of homosexual behavior, but didn't know how they contacted each other when the urge came upon them to play with other perverts.

You'd think they'd want to see the person whose backside they're interested in, wouldn't you?

No wonder so many homosexuals end up being murdered by other homosexuals.

Why doesn’t Larry just announce he is a “gay American”. Oprah will be begging for him afterwards, and he can become a Democrat and be re-elected forever.

We arent exactly known for a well developed sense of humor.

I wouldn't say that.

Many are still laughing over the hilarious escapades of that Austrian post-card painter.
