Text of report by German news agency ddp

Berlin (ddp) -A large majority in the Bundestag [lower house of parliament] has resolved the continuation of the Bundeswehr [armed forces] mission in Afghanistan: 454 deputies voted by roll-call for and 79 against the government motion. There were 48 abstentions.

In the new ISAF [International Security Assistance Force], the so far separated mandates for the Bundeswehr's participation in the international protection force (ISAF) are combined with the deployment of the six Tornado reconnaissance aircraft. The maximum upper limit for ISAF has therefore been increased from 3,000 to 3,500 men. The new mandate will be valid until mid-October 2008, the costs are estimated at 487 million euros.
