I was wondering about the barrage of hit pieces on Fred Thompson just after the debate. His good performance sparked the knee-jerks much like a doctor performing a reflex test. They just painted themselves with a Enemy of Fred sign. Now they can go and stand in a corner.

I can think of many adjectives to describe Fred’s debate performance but “good” would not be one of them. Might I suggest alternatives such as boring, monotone, stumblng, tired, and uninspiring. That said, he didn’t totally fall on his face either. He did better toward the end of the debate and obviously many people still support him. But except for the fact that he didn’t fall off the stage there is no way that you can paint his performance as any sort of a victory.
