"House Bill 1525 by Rep. Joyce Elliott, D-Little Rock, was approved by the House but eventually failed in the Senate. Huckabee reiterated Wednesday that he believes every child, regardless of their parent's immigration status, should have an opportunity to receive an education in the U.S."
"I ... believe that an education for every child is the most important single factor to give everyone to be their very best," he said."
So in other words, part of the issue was about whether children of parents here illegally should be allowed to attend school?
He’s pro-invasion in every way I can detect.
Are any of the other leading candidates, (other than Hunter and Tancredo), on record with a stronger position than Huckabee? It seems to me they are all saying they are opposed to amnesty.
Travis, I hate to say it but we already are.
Not where I live, and it won’t happen while I’m alive and kicking.
Hello, dano1 - I appreciate your efforts to promote discussion. This exchange of information is part of what makes this forum so helpful. I checked out Huckabee’s website, and I agree with you that his STATED position on illegal immigration sounds similar to the other candidates. However.....I also checked other sites, such as this news article from 2005:
Huckabee said the bill, seeking to forbid public assistance and voting rights to undocumented immigrants, “inflames those who are racist and bigots and makes them think there’s a real problem. But there’s not...”
Well... have you heard of any other candidates who are calling me a racist and a bigot just because I oppose “voting rights” for “undocumented immigrants?”
Regards,
Molly K.
Just out of curiosity, where do most people get information about candidates?
I’ve always wondered why all applicants for government jobs have to fill out one form of application or another, depending on the job, yet candidates for high offices get by with their own version of what the public should know about them. It seems to me that candidates should have to fill out the same application as those who want/get top clearances. I’d like to have candidates for top federal offices fill out those applications and the information be available to the public. Fat chance of that ever happening though.
I wasn't able to find any news article containing the quote you mentioned. Maybe I just missed it. Do you have a link to the URL? Thank you.
Hi, dano1 - I don’t know the name of the newspaper, I just followed the link from post #14 “Huckabee on Illegals-2.”
Do you think that maybe Huckabee was misquoted? If he was, then I’d certainly want to find out the true quotation.

Huckabee would drive away independents and libertarians. He’s a nanny-stater. If he’s nominated I’m staying home.
Yes - Ron Paul voted in favor of the Secure Fence Act, he wants to end birthright citizenship of illegals and physically secure the borders. That means putting Army troops on the border. There would be no welfare state for illegals to come here and take advantage of.
Huckabee is a joke.
All I know about the bill is what lonewacko posted:
http://lonewacko.com/blog/archives/002570.html#002570
According to him, the bill would have prohibited illegals from receiving public benefits. It would also have stepped up efforts to prevent them from registering to vote.
As for the children of illegals, if they are born here, no bill could strip them of benefits because they are American citizens.
I don't know. I looked on Google News and several of the Arkansas news sites and could not find anything. They may have archived the stoy. However it would be interesting to see what the original article said and the context.
Speaking for myself, I find I tend to agree with the Center for Immigration Studies on illegal immigration.
I was required to have a security clearance when I enlisted in the Air Force. I wonder how many of Slick Willy’s bunch couldn’t get one.
I agree with you that Huckabee is a joke, but why did Paul consistently vote against putting military on the border?
(1) Paul consistently voted every year since 1999 against putting the military on the border:
2006: H. Amdt. 206 to H.R. 1815
2004: Goode Amendment to H.R. 4200
2003: Goode Amendment to H.R. 1588
2002: H. Amdt. 479 to H.R. 4546
2001: Traficant amendment to HR 2586
2000: Traficant amendment to H.R.4205
1999: Trafficant Amendment to H.R. 1401.
(2) Paul voted in 1997, 2001( H.R. 1885) and 2002 (H RES 365) to grant, extend or continue Section 245-i amnesties for illegal aliens.
(3) Paul voted NO on extending the voluntary Basic Pilot Workplace Verification Program (H.R. 2359),
(4) Paul voted NO on the border fence in 2005 (Hunter Amendment to HR 4437 - "Enforcement Only" Bill).
(5) Paul voted YES to increase H2-B (HR 763 in 2005) and H-1B visas (HR 3736 in 1998). In 1998, he voted to allow US firms to lay off Americans to replace them with foreigners.
