The proposal is very much a starting point, and I expect it will be revised with the help of people more qualified than me to assess the pros and cons.
I had included the four Central California coastal counties, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura for specific reasons.
Rural Monterey and Santa Barbara counties are quite conservative, although their urban centers are liberal. San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties conservative. Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties are where our offshore oil is located. And I’ve a sense that if the new state is formed, a well known state senator from Ventura County will be the first governor of the new state.
Yes, seeing how the problem with illegal immigrants plays out would be one of the most interesting aspects to watch. I am quite certain the larger state would not be sympathetic to illegal immigrants and the result would send the illegal immigrant population into the two small heavily populated areas forming the smaller state. The smaller state would have a ratio of 2 illegal immigrants for every 3 legal residents. No telling how long the citizens in those areas would be willing to provides free healthcare, housing, and food, but I don’t imagine they would do it for too long.
I truly believe the smaller state will find itself taking some more conservative approaches to problems under this proposal. I see that as one of the benefits. It will shake those areas back to living in the real world.
I’ll ask about making a ping list for this to get you and others interested on the list and keep all informed of developments.
I’m really counting on FreeRepublic and California FReepers to get this known and win.
Please add me to this ping list. Thanks!
