Perhaps the best response came from the Anti-Defamation League, which called Coulter's comments "outrageous, offensive and a throwback to the centuries-old teaching of contempt for Jews and Judaism. The notion that Jews are religiously inferior or imperfect because they do not accept Christian beliefs was the basis for 2,000 years of church-based anti-Semitism. While she is entitled to her beliefs, using mainstream media to espouse the idea that Judaism needs to be replaced with Christianity and that each individual Jew is somehow deficient and needs to be "perfected" is rank Christian supersessionism and has been rejected by the Catholic Church and the vast majority of mainstream Christian denominations. Clearly, Ann Coulter needs a wake-up call about the power of words to injure others and fuel hatred. She needs an education, too, about the roots of anti-Semitism."
That she does. As the league points out, "supersessionism," the theological notion that Christianity "completes" or "perfects" Judaism is, along with the deicide libel, anti-Semitism's major theological underpinning. Indeed, in Central and Western Europe between the world wars, there was a substantial body of purportedly "respectable" intellectual opinion that held "supersessionism" made possible a "reasonable" theological anti-Semitism that was entirely licit, as opposed to the Nazis' and fascists' illicit, "racially based" anti-Semitism. It is fair to say that the rails leading to Auschwitz were greased by precisely the opinion Coulter expressed on American television this week.

Side note: Where is Mel Gibson?
Not possible.
Very good !! Thanks
Actually some people say McCarthy was a patriotic American who only wanted to protect us from communists in our government. If this is true he sure has gotten a bum deal. His name is sure used by liberals a lot to silence criticism of the left. I’d really like to know the truth. If he was really a good American then I’d like to see the word “McCarthyism” be eliminated (hopefully by education).
And that closet better not be in a public school.
Yes, this is outlandish hyperbole.
The LA Times ever condemn THOSE guys?
Jimmy Carter was soundly condemned by one of the Jewish groups attacking Coulter - the Wiesenthal Center.
You remember that, of course. Got a lot of media play. New York Times ran stories about it for weeks.
Does anyone else feel that this is the worst possible moment for Jews and Christians to be divided? We both face the onslaught of Islam, only in unity can we can defeat it.
Islam will defeat itself, G-d willing.
There are real anti-semites at large in the world, firing missiles into jewish neighborhoods and dreaming of the day they can pop off a nuke and wipe them off the face of the earth.
And then there are the evangelicals, who consider themselves to be bound to the defense of jews, whatever happens, whatever the cost.
The latter obviously make an easier target, since they won’t kill you or your wife and kids. They might “share” their faith with you, if you ask, maybe occasionally if you don’t ask. Note, of course, that Coulter didn’t bring it up, she only answered a question. Real anti-semites, on the other hand, are dangerous, and they very well might kill you, and in fact they’re planning to.
It takes no courage to attack an evangelical for his faith, he’s used to it and he’ll still be there for you when the chips are down. Attack a real anti-semite and you might get hurt. That takes real courage, and it takes knowing who your friends are, and knowing who your enemies are.
Somehow it's acceptable for Mulims to be unapologetically Muslim, and for Jews to be unapologetically Jews, but it's not OK for a Christian to be unapologetically Christian?
Semitic adj.
1. Of or relating to the Semites or their languages or cultures.
2. Of, relating to, or constituting a subgroup of the Afro-Asiatic language group that includes Arabic, Hebrew, Amharic, and Aramaic.
Semitic...more than a religious affiliation....although it's not come to be used in that fashion....
Arabs are Semites too...;)
Ann has a habit of throwing herself on the grenade...but it always is to make some salient point...this time it's getting the hypocrites to reveal themselves...brilliant!
Of course evangelicals want to convert everyone...so do Muslims...and being an initiate in Mahayana Buddhism I know that they have a belief that their work is not complete until everyone attains Buddhahood.....it's the work of the Bodhisttvas....
And being a neopagan myself, frankly I would like the entire world to go back to blatant paganism...;) Shrug
Much ado about nothing....seem to me...
I find myself more and more defending the Christian's right to believe as they wish as provided by our constitution against the forces of godless atheism and the secular fundamentalists...
For if the Christians go down, the rest of us are fodder....:/
Many religious people welcome and rejoice for converts.
"Dearer to God than all of the Israelites who stood at Mount Sinai is the convert. Had the Israelites not witnessed the lightning, thunder, and quaking mountain, and had they not heard the sounds of the shofar, they would not have accepted the Torah. But the convert, who did not see or hear any of these things, surrendered to God and accepted the yoke of heaven. Can anyone be dearer to God than such a person?"
Tanhuma (ed. Buber), Lekh Lekha 6:32
I’m so sick and tire of people beating up on Ann for stating what is easily verified by the Bible.
However, since the liberals never read the Bible, they should have studied the life of Paul. He was a Rabbi, one of the Jews who was tasked with finding the “new Christians” and killing them. But, on the way to Damascus (I believe), his journey was interrupted by the Holy Ghost who knocked him off his horse. Paul was blinded as a result of the fall, and did not regain his sight until Jesus showed up and Paul was CONVERTED TO CHRISTIANITY. It was Paul, the former Jew who preached the Gospel to the known world.
So .. anybody who has a problem with what Ann said is just offended for no reason .. and if they would just read the Bible, they would see Ann is correct.
Even Jesus called the Jews “a hard headed and stubborn lot”.
Of course, one of the "some people" you're talking about is none other than Ann Coulter. Which illustrates why she should leave history and theology to professionals. McCarthy may not have been the demonic figure the Leftists have made him into, but he certainly was a drunk, a liar (see, "Army-McCarthy hearings") and a general disgrace to the Republican Party.
Shouldn’t the good liberals of the LA Times be railing against Judaism 24/7 for requiring ritual genital mutilation of infant boys and for the slaughter of innocent animals for the expiation of sins?
Now be fair. CAIR doesn’t call for the conversion of all Jews; only the extermination of any who live in Israel and dhimmi status for all Jews and Christians who have NOT converted to Islaam.
Her last couple of "over the top" comments made me think she'd already jumped the shark. But now, I wonder who on Fox News can dare bring her on to their show. This subject has to come up and how can she possibly respond, and who really wants to hear it?
I don't think that this is true Christianity. To me, it's definitely anti-Semitic--which seems to be a disturbing trait of many of the Christian Right--at evidenced from several of the posts above.
We worry that so many Jews are so liberal. Maybe we should look at ourselves and how we're painting the conservative movement into a permanent minority status if we require a religious litmus test for admittance.
Ann is one of them. See 'Treason'.
It's all horse poop.
Under Christianity, one must voluntarily convert. There is no FORCED conversion. You must believe *in you heart* that God raised Him Jesus from the dead. That is the end of the discussion.
However insincere, or callous, Ann Coulter is, it is the truth for Christians. It is what we believe.
Jews who hate A.C., do you have better friends outside your faith than the Fundie Christians? Do you?
Who will go to the impending Ultimate Battle with you?
And I bet some of you know...It's Coming.
The cards are on the table...straight flush....
