My sister's all for "gun-free zones." I told her that she should help to make her community a gun-free zone by putting a "gun-free home" sticker on her home. That ended the discussion quickly. But will she change her position? I doubt it.
You can't defeat wishful thinking. Yeah, teachers should carry. Will they? Not until the next American Beslan. And even then I'm not too sure.
That's very astute of you, because I was asking a question, and not making "a point".
The question was, does anyone know whether teachers were in fact apt to carry a firearm (or not) prior to the Gun Free Zones Act of 1996.
I fail to see how that's confusing you. It's a simple enough question.
Make the bad guys look for their victims, that will show them. Sounds like an Easter egg hunt.
How can anyone read this and not laugh?
The Mohammedans must be shaking in their boots.
Seriously, you should pass this info on to Rush, or World Net Daily, National Review, or some other conservative publication.
That was YOUR question, not mine
MY question was what did the federal ban under Clinton have to do with CCW? And, you answered it for me.
Does that settle the confusion? It was a simple enough question.
There are lots of good options available.
The best is arming all willing, able teachers and 18+ year old students.
But that option isn’t going to fly in many left-wing areas.
So other options include such things as:
1. non-lethal weapons such as bean-bag guns, pepper-spray, stun grenades, tasers, etc. for non-teaching administrators (e.g. principals, coaches, janitors) as well as bullet-proof vests available for those who will be confronting a shooter or suicide bomber
2. armed police/security on campus
3. arming at least one principal in each school (well, baby steps are better than no steps)
4. patroling campuses with guard dogs
5. school video links to police and security agencies
6. dead-bolt locks on classroom hall doors combined with emergency exit access doors/windows out of classrooms via non-hallway paths
7. Cell phones and bank-style alarm buttons to police/security
Also, it’s worth remembering that as schools become more protected that these murderers are going to gradually shift toward less-protected targets such as day care centers, fast food restaurants, hospitals, elder-care facilities, etc.
The people who care about "gun free zones" are the same brainiacs who can't explain why there are no shootings at gun ranges and police stations.
Ummmm.... errrr... I suppose so. (????)
Whatever.
Why don't you expand on that.
Sheesh....and if the perp is one of those students they'll know exactly where to go to find their victims. The inmates truly ARE running the asylum!
Works in Israel.
Sorry, I was referring to the language of the legislation.
When someone is trying to KILL YOU, you don't dork around with half-assed solutions like single-shot, don't-miss-or-he'll-kill-you-which-is-what-he's-trying-to-do-anyway, not-as-reliable-as-you-think tazers.
Let's put it this way:
I got zapped, voluntarily, with a stun gun once. I promptly emptied 17 9mm rounds into a target - accurately.
Needless to say, I don't put much stock in these zappers.
So, if the shooter attends that school, they'll know exactly where to find everybody.
Late 1970’s a quiet little highschool erupted into a major race riot as kids getting off the buses entered the school with knives, chains, and guns.
I was in 8th grade at the private Catholic School just down the road. We went into lockdown as police, firetrucks, and ambulances roared by. Mom came to get us out of school.
The next 4 years I spent in that same public school. We had more than several plain clothes officer with guns in the school all the time. I can’t think of any teacher I would have even suspected of carrying a gun. Principal...yes, not a teacher though.
