Undocumented kids seek aid of Congress

Disappointed that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed the California DREAM Act this weekend, undocumented California college students and supporters say they will appeal to Congress for help with their predicament.

The students are pinning hopes on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and his plan to reintroduce in November a bipartisan federal proposal that would allow undocumented kids to study or join the military to earn permanent legal status.

On Saturday, Schwarzenegger's office announced he was vetoing the California Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, which was approved by the state Legislature earlier this year. The bill would have allowed some undocumented graduates of state high schools to seek non-competitive college grants and fee waivers

An Republican who signs onto this ought to consider his career over. For that matter, any Democrat as well.

“undocumented California college students and supporters say they will appeal to Congress for help with their predicament”

When he gave the decision for United States v. Verdugo-Urquidez, 494 U.S. 259 (1990) Chief Justice Rehnquist said that “the defendant in this case lacked a sufficient relationship with the U.S. to call upon the U.S. Constitution for protection”

The illegal alien “students” also “lack(ed) a sufficient relationship with the U.S. to call upon the U.S.” Congress...

" . . . that would allow undocumented kids to study or join the military to earn permanent legal status.”"

Doesn't Mexico have a program that would allow military enlistees to continue their education while serving their country? If not, why not?

Why would the illegals expect another country to do something their own country wouldn't do for them?

How 'bout it, Vicente? I know you're no longer in a position to prevent Mexico from doing that, but you might consider doing something for your country now that you're not on the payroll anymore. Use your pursuasive powers where it counts and atone for your neglect! You'll be glad you did.

That’s right! They’re ILLEGAL ALIENS! I’m so sick of this “undocumented immigrant” bullcrap.

Deport their asses, and Harry Reid the dour traitor along with them.

Round them up and send them home. They are not Americans and not only are they taking the slots that should be going to American citizens but they’re driving up the cost of a college education by creating artificial demand.

Send them all home along with their parents and tell them to fix their own countries.

These "undocumenteds" could very easily shut up, finish working, save up some money, and return to their home country to obtain an undergraduate education there. Then, they can apply for student visas to pursue graduate study in the United States.

But that's not what they want.

Follow the money.

They don't want to pay for their education. They want access to the Federal Student Aid system, including access to Pell/SEOG and other grants, subsidized loans, etc. They want preferential tuition rates (over other international students and over out-of-state U.S. citizens, at public institutions). They want preferential access, through affirmative action programs.

Mexican universities place hefty surcharges on tuition rates for international students. Why can't our schools do the same?
