I had the pleasure of meeting (then LtCol) Pete Pace back in 1987 when he came to make a courtesy call to the newly-appointed Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, David W. Sommers.
As the sergeant major’s admin chief, Pete and I chatted for at least 10 minutes, and from that time on, I knew the Corps had a class act and a Marine’s Marine.

I had the pleasure of meeting General Pace at Arlington National Cemetery. We placed the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier together. I got to “mingle” with him and his lovely wife Lynn before the ceremony and gave him pictures of my sons in their Dress Blues. I give these pictures out to people I meet and they look at them and say nice things. General Pace looked at my son’s pictures for QUITE A WHILE. I don’t think that was an act or grandstanding....there were five people in that room. I really believe that is just how he is....that he really is a compassionate man that cares, especially when it comes to the Fallen and their Sacrifices.
I’m with fontman on this one............
