ANKARA (Reuters) - Turkey will defy international pressure on Wednesday and grant its troops permission to enter northern Iraq to crush Kurdish rebels based there, though it has played down expectations of any imminent attack.
Washington, Ankara's NATO ally, says it understands Turkey's desire to tackle rebels of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), but fears a major incursion would wreck stability in the most peaceful part of Iraq and potentially in the wider region.

Turkey had the chance to join us in the war against Saddam; they were going to commit 40,000 troops. Instead, they opted to SIDE WITH SADDAM. They cost us an effective northern front and kept one of our best units out of the fighting.
NOW, we ought to tell them they missed their chance.
They could have been occupying Anbar and some other provinces; instead, we did that job and paid for it.
They can go pound sand. And if they don’t respect Iraq’s borders, they can find out just how backward their military really is when it confronts a modern force with predators and tomahawks.

Well, you are right, but we are not about to go to war against the Turks. What we might do is to negotiate a limited incursion directed at the terrorists with a definite time-table for witdrawal. However, I do not trust a government which I consider to be Islamist to keep bargins. We must make it perfectly clear that the Kurdish government is under our protection.
Wait a minute . . . isn't this precisely why Turkey was adamantly opposed to the U.S. invasion of Iraq in the first place?
If I were the leader of Turkey I'd tell the U.S. to take a flying leap on this one.
Either that or agree to specific actions taken to eliminate Kurdish guerrilla incursions into Turkey.
If I were the leader of Turkey I would ask that 300 billion loan about now.
If they had let the 4th come into Iraq 2003, they could have come with us and established bases in the area held by the PKK. area.

A strategic gamble, seeing that the reason why Turkey remains secular is that the military there intends to make it that way, the Islamic Government in charge of it (that is held in check by the military) is sent to be annihilated by Infidel forces.
Thus with those forces annihilated it weakens the militaries ability to counter the Islamic movements within the country so the Jihadists could finalize their plans for the Islamic state that is going to be managed by Iranian Clerics.
