Oral Roberts University President Richard Roberts issued a written statement on Wednesday saying he is taking an indefinite leave of absence, following intense scrutiny spawned by financial, political and other allegations raised in a lawsuit.
This announcement comes eight days after Roberts said on national television: "I have not done anything wrong for which I needed to step aside."
Billy Joe Daugherty, pastor of Victory Christian Center, has been named executive regent and will lead the university while Roberts is on leave, said George Pearsons, chairman of ORU's board of regents.
Pearsons said the board does not have anyone in mind as a replacement for Roberts and would want him to return if allegations made against ORU in a recent lawsuit are found to be untrue.
Roberts will continued to live in university provided housing and will be paid while on leave, Pearsons said.
Daugherty left the board of regents in mid-June, but accepted an offer last week to rejoin the board.
In Roberts' statement, he said, "Today, I have asked the board of regents of Oral Roberts University to grant me a temporary leave of absence until such time as these matters can be resolved," he said. "I have prayed about it and feel that it is in the best interest of my family and the university."
Roberts said the allegations -- particularly "untrue allegations of sexual misconduct by my wife" -- "have taken a serious toll on me and my family."

There fixed it ...
To parse that, he doesn't deny wrongdoing, just wrongdoing that would require him to step aside.
He is defending his wife.
I wish Dante Allegheri was alive today. I’m sure he would describe a special place for these types.
Well, God seems to think ORU needs to be around at least for now.
If ORU is being blessed by God, it will thrive, if not, it will disappear eventually
The Clintons thrive. So do Soros, the Hollywood left, and Islam. You misunderstand that passage in Acts. And you are not wise as a serpent as Jesus taught. These people are in it for the money.
That's absolutely ridiculous logic. The Church of Satan is thriving. The Islam religion is thriving. Internet pornography is thriving. That mean that God is blessing these respective "institutions?"
“The Church of Satan is thriving.”
What specifically is the the Church of Satan?
PING
The Worldwide Church of Satan founded by Anton Levay in San Fran.
“The Worldwide Church of Satan founded by Anton Levay in San Fran.”
Oh, I do remember that from the ‘60s, but I hadn’t heard much about it lately. I’m sorry to hear that it’s still in existence.
These institutes don't claim be be wrought of God and part of his handiwork.
God's plan for these "institutions" is not hidden and his patience is not finite when it comes to their sin
As far ORU, the moment this "institution" no longer can be used by Him to further his ultimate plan, they no longer will be able to sustain themselves. His hand will be off them.
All these people and institutions survive with Gods knowledge and permission to fulfill his purpose.
You misunderstand that passage in Acts.
Which one? Several apply
And you are not wise as a serpent as Jesus taught.
Wow, from one post, you discerned that my wisdom is lacking. You must be extremely wise:)
and These people are in it for the money.
That in fact may be true, if so they will be exposed as frauds and have it shouted from the rooftops, until then, I would say God has a reason ORU lives and breaths.
You can make such a statement re Islam with a straight face? Simply because God allows evil people to flourish doesn't mean He's using them or blessing them.
God allows all forms of evil to exist, Oral Roberts' Enterprises included. It doesn't mean He has a purpose for them.
Of course I can, I don't consider allah "God"
Muslims may consider allah to be a monotheistic "god" but the attributes of allah as outlined in the koran do not remotely resemble the monotheistic "God" of the Jews and Christians.
Just so you understand, that is not a Biblical concept, God is omnipresence and omnipotent. He knows everyone from conception, He just doesn't force his will upon them.
That's not what you said. You said, "These institutes don't claim be be wrought of God and part of his handiwork." The sand monkeys most certainly consider themselves to be "wrought of God."
Just so you understand, that is not a Biblical concept,
God's omnipotence and omnipresence have nothing to do with the topic at hand. Just because an evil institution exists does not mean it does so with God's blessings.
I think I'm getting the gist of your religious error.
For your information, man is not born into sin, God does not predestine certain ones to be saved (and certain ones to be lost), and it is indeed possible for a child of God to be eternally lost.
BTW, and Israel is no longer the "Chosen Nation."
I'm not sure what cult you are drinking your kool-aid from, but according to the Biblical doctrine, all men were born into sin, it is our nature.
Believe what you want to, I'd take the Word of God as my source
You're teaching a false doctrine which makes you a false teacher. If man were born into sin then children would be sinful. Jesus' teachings say different.
Matt 18:3,4: And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
You're obviously a calvinist. Calvinism has been discredited for all but the most mentally deranged. Who's drinking the kool aid?
That's the problem with people like you. That's why Jesus said closed minded people are like pigs and/or dogs.
Matt 7:6: Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
I'm through wasting my time with you.
You quote Matt 18:3,4 as a passage claiming children are not sinful
To understand the "context" read verse 1: At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"
Matt 18:3,4: And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
The passage you refer to is Jesus talking about "pride" not "sin"
Lesson over.
