Right now the system is a very expensive mish-mash of private and gubmint plans.

Beyond that, some form of very basic universal healthcare is inevitable at this point. We’re the last industrialized country not to have it. Business wants it, the insurance companies want it and the folks that are un-insured or paying a ton out of pocket for insurance want it.

that’s right and the last thing we need is government to run it.

My Marine Corps father used to say, "people in hell want ice water."

"Beyond that, some form of very basic universal healthcare is inevitable at this point."

I hope it's not inevitable. Insurance costs will go up, mandatory coverage will go up. Some people will never pay for insurance, so you will still have to deal with those who are uninsured. Everyone will be paying a ton for insurance. One sure way to make certain something goes up is to make sure everyone must have it.

The best way to insure prices go down is to eliminate insurance completely and make everyone pay for services out of pocket. I have a orthodontist in my area who refuses to take insurance from any provider. He has the lowest costs of any of them. He has fewer office workers -- no need to deal with insurers and his prices are fair. We had dental insurance but we chose to go with him -- he's a very good dentist, smart too.

But I'm not naive enough to think insurance will be eliminated. I just hope that we can continue to have a choice and don't get forced into one of these one size fits all systems that never reduces anyone's cost and ultimately doesn't work for anyone except those wealthy enough to avoid it.

What flavor of socialist KoolAid have you been drinking? Business and insurance companies "want it" because it shifts the responsibility to the taxpayers. Most of the uninsured are also at the bottom of the income scale. They don't have employer sponsored insurance because they never acquired skills valuable enough to warrant the perk. These are the same people who pay less than 6% of the total tax burden and enjoy income from government entitlement programs. It's an expansion of the gravy train. The socialist politicians are buying more votes by stealing money from the productive and giving it away to people who aren't productive...except at the polling place when it comes time to elect socialists to office.

My healthcare costs me 145.00 per month for my entire family. That includes dental and vision. I have a 1,200 deduct . We do have to use healthcare providers associated with the hospital. You can opt out and use an outside source but you will pay extra. I don’t use the ER thats a 100 co-pay.

You tell me how the governments going to give me a better deal and I’ll listen, but I bet they can’t.

Most employers haven’t a clue what they buy into for their employees yet they write specs for bidding purposes for everything else all the time. As a result they pay for many more services than they need, want or ever will use. They need to smarten up and their emplyees would be much better off.
