“* Nov. 18, 2003 Romney responds to SJC ruling with four-sentence statement implicitly recognizing SJCs authority, says only remedy will be a constitutional amendment: I disagree with the Supreme Judicial Court. Marriage is an institution between a man and a woman. I will support an amendment to the Massachusetts Constitution to make that expressly clear. Of course, we must provide basic civil rights and appropriate benefits to nontraditional couples, but marriage is a special institution that should be reserved for a man and a woman.
Good point Bob. It’s good to see actual facts as apposed to baseless charges. Given Romney’s record, anyone charging him with carrying a pro gay rights agenda looses all credibility with me. It would better for the conservative cause if Republicans making a charge against a Republican candidate to show reasonable evidence to substantiate the charge. The mud throwing weakens our chances as a group to win elections. It develops animosity and unproductive suspicion within the party. It may be fun for the mud thrower, but it turns off support one of our candidates will need if we are to win in the general election.
OK.
Romney told gays he would be a stronger supporter of their agenda than Ted Kennedy.
Romney handed out pink fliers at a gay pride festival supporting their agenda.
Romney stated he supported the military's "don't ask don't tell" policy as a stepping stone to gays serving openly in the military.
Romney did nothing to support a marriage amendment.
There is, of course, much more. That is why the gays are attacking him. He was one of their strongest supporters and has now flip flopped and campaigns as if he never was.
