WASHINGTON (AP) — Liberal Al Franken is good enough and smart enough to win some of conservative Ben Stein's money — and doggone it, Stein likes him.

Stein, an actor, writer and economist, has contributed $2,000 to Franken's Minnesota Senate campaign. The two men have known each other for about 30 years.

"I'm struck by what an incredibly capable, hard-working guy he is," Stein told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Thursday. "He's a very smart liberal, he's a thoroughgoing patriot, and I would feel better with him in the Senate."

What an idiot. Doesn’t surprise me, Ben Stein always struck me as untrustworthy and smarmy.

What ever respect I had for Ben Stein just went to ZERO!

God! You folks react too quickly and think too little. Ben Stein's 2K isn't going to get Franken elected. But it will help put Franken in the spotlight and what a fun time that will be.

Wooaah now.
Before we burn the witch, I have to remind y’all, that while I do not underfreakingstand this, Stein has, in the last couple years written numerous columns that were drenched with love for America, traditional values, veneration for our troops AND their mission, and he has consistently spoken up for us who hold our religion dear. I’d like to know what the deal is, but he has earned the benefit of the doubt in my estimation.

That doesn’t make him100% fireproof though.

Maybe he gave Norm Coleman 5K?

I don't think he can. I think $2K is the max.

Still, this could be a very close race, one that Coleman could well lose. Giving the Democrats ammunition to shoot the Republican is puzzling, friendship or no.

“What an idiot. Doesn’t surprise me, Ben Stein always struck me as untrustworthy and smarmy.”

Yep. He would (correctly) whine about what a coward he was compared to American soldiers, and spend paragraphs detailing the sub-standard bed he was forced to endure in his suite at The Plaza.

Not exactly what I would consider conservative thinking.

And this guy is now the editor of American Spectator?

“Ben just decided to act on the only lines that really make sense to everyone except WASPS: blood lines. Franken and Stein are Jewish. I hate to say it. It’s funny—one the one hand any WASP who helps a fellow WASP because he’s a WASP is a racist.
Any WASP who points out that a Jewish guy just helped another Jewish guy because he’s Jewish is ALSO a bigot.
I lose coming and going.”

You’re crazy,
