An unlikely treasure-trove of donors for Clinton

The candidate's unparalleled fundraising success relies largely on the least-affluent residents of New York's Chinatown - some of whom can't be tracked down.

NEW YORK -- Something remarkable happened at 44 Henry St., a grimy Chinatown tenement with peeling walls. It also happened nearby at a dimly lighted apartment building with trash bins clustered by the front door.

And again not too far away, at 88 E. Broadway beneath the Manhattan bridge, where vendors chatter in Mandarin and Fujianese as they hawk rubber sandals and bargain-basement clothes.

All three locations, along with scores of others scattered throughout some of the poorest Chinese neighborhoods in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx, have been swept by an extraordinary impulse to shower money on one particular presidential candidate -- Democratic front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Dishwashers, waiters and others whose jobs and dilapidated home addresses seem to make them unpromising targets for political fundraisers are pouring $1,000 and $2,000 contributions into Clinton's campaign treasury. In April, a single fundraiser in an area long known for its gritty urban poverty yielded a whopping $380,000. When Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) ran for president in 2004, he received $24,000 from Chinatown.

.....

And Clinton's success in gathering money from Chinatown's least-affluent residents stems from a two-pronged strategy: mutually beneficial alliances with powerful groups, and appeals to the hopes and dreams of people now consigned to the margins.

Clinton has enlisted the aid of Chinese neighborhood associations, especially those representing recent immigrants from Fujian province. The organizations, at least one of which is a descendant of Chinatown criminal enterprises that engaged in gambling and human trafficking, exert enormous influence over immigrants. The associations help them with everything from protection against crime to obtaining green cards.

Let me make a small correction re "idiotic juries"...

I think most juries are not so much idiotic as they are ideologically and/or politically prejudiced, as cases like O.J. Simpson (in LA) and I. Lewis Libby (in DC) have shown. Patrick Fitzgerald's witch hunt and "investigation" charade has only been based on a single premise - that he stood a good chance of conviction of political enemy in Washington, DC where two major political parties have a disparity of about 10:1.

Robert Ray did not indict and try Hillary in DC for the same simple reason that Patrick Fitzgerald indicted and tried Libby in DC - ideologically and politically prejudiced jury (whether some of them are also idiots, is beside the point.) Robert Ray even made statements clearly implying this.

We have places in this country (mostly in some very large cities, with DC as bad as it gets) where one [Democratic] political party is "untouchable" "under the judge" or "under the jury", never mind what they are "under the law"...

"There is no controlling legal authority" - Al Gore, White House, March 3, 1997.

Exactly. She will run on the “agent of change” platform, and the [phony] “return to peace and prosperity of the 1990s”...

We have to remind people of corruption, embarrassments, and consequences of phony “peace” (when we had war with Iraq, North Korea and Pakistan proliferating nuclear weapons technology, impotence in Somalia and elsewhere, and Osama declared several fatwas which were ignored, and 1993 WTC attack that was treated as legal / criminal matter) and “prosperity” of Internet bubble and [near-]recession of 1995 as a result of 1993 tax-raising budget and market collapse of 2000 and following recession, even before the 9/11 attack...

We have to make people not only remember, but also “feel” that queasy feeling one gets from Clintons and their dealings.

But, somehow, someway, they’ve become the most prominent people in this country. Something stinks and something is very scary.

Yeah, they've both sold their souls to the Devil. He helps them, but it will come at a price.

Here's to them paying it sooner rather than later.

I’m just not convinced that weak kneed prosecutors, judges and idiotic juries are going to do anything about it.

Why should they, when she's got their FBI files?

They should have done it back during the Rose Law firm scandal but they didnt.
They should have done it with Vince Foster, but they didnt.
They should have done it the first time she was elected, but they didnt.
They should have done it the second time she was elected, but they didnt

...notice a trend here

They should be doing it with the current Hsu scandal, BUT THEY WONT!
