Stark Disgrace
IBD ^ | October 19, 2007

Congress: One of the most liberal and powerful House Democrats has accused the president of taking glee in the slaughter of U.S. troops. If Democrats refuse to punish him, they malign the soldiers themselves.

Rep. Fortney "Pete" Stark from San Francisco's East Bay district has long been one of the congressional Democrats' biggest embarrassments, and they have tried their best to treat him like a family's crazy old aunt and pretend he isn't really there.

There was no outrage from his fellow Democrats in 2003 when Stark hurled an obscenity referring to homosexuality at a Republican Ways and Means member during a legislative mark-up.

• Silence was also the reaction when Stark said California state welfare director Eloise Anderson would "kill children if she had her way" in 1999.

• Nor was there a peep out of his party colleagues when in 1995 Stark called then-Republican Rep. Nancy Johnson a "whore" for insurance companies, and that her knowledge of health care came via "pillow talk."

• Not even the Democrats' Congressional Black Caucus complained when in 1990 Stark called President Bush's black HHS Secretary Louis Sullivan "a disgrace to his race."

This poor old man needs to take his Aricept and STFU. He has totally lost it but he is from the left coast. He has been semi-bitch slapped by Nancy Pelosi but that means nothing. The guy is a friggin nutjob.

His district is just up the road, most folks there seem normal but it is hard to say what the heck they are thinking when they vote for him..

He is not a “uniter”, that is for sure.

ATHEIST Congressman Announced! There is only one member of Congress who is on record as not holding a god-belief. Rep. Pete Stark (D-Calif.), a member of Congress since 1973, acknowledged his nontheism in response to an inquiry by the Secular Coalition for America (www.secular.org ). Rep. Stark is a senior member of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee and is Chair of the Health Subcommittee. Although the Constitution prohibits religious tests for public office, the Coalition’s research reveals that Rep. Stark is the first open nontheist in the history of the Congress.

He is also a homosexual.

He doesn’t care, the Democrats don’t care, and, until I see otherwise by election results, I won’t believe that half the voters in this country care.

The kind of parents who have no regard for hamsters.

Most women give birth via the birth canal. Starks mother was obviously the first to give birth via the anal canal. She must be so proud.

That sums it up pretty well. Short, concise and covers it all, well said.

This type of thing is quite common left circles. Assigning motives, thoughts and feelings to others is their MO (as opposed to debating facts).

They don’t see anything wrong with this. It’s merely ‘snarky’ to them.

The President doesn’t seem to care either...

Maybe that old addage of “Sticks and stones” still applies...

But in anycase this is something that pushed a button with me the other day...

To which I unloaded on this stunted growth...

I imagine the constituency in his district were dancing in the streets like the muslims were doing after the 9-11 attacks...

So its pretty much par for the course...

Rep. Pete Stark:
Bush Sends Troops to Death for his ‘Amusement’
Text of Pete Stark’s Comments on Children’s Healthcare in Congress 18oct2007

First of all, Madam Speaker, I am just amazed that they can’t figure out . . .

The Republicans are worried that we can’t pay for insuring an addition 10 million children. They sure don’t care about finding $200 Billion to fight the illegal war in Iraq. Where’re you gonna get that money?! You gonna tell us LIES?!. . .like you’re telling us today?! Is THAT how you’re gonna fund the war?

You don’t have money to fund the war OR children. But you’re gonna spend it to blow up innocent people. . .if we can get enough kids ot grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the President’s amusement.

This bill would provide healthcare for 10 Million children. And unlike the President’s own kids, these children can’t see a doctor or receive necessary care. Six million are insured through the children’s health insurance program and they’ll do better in school and in life.

In California, the President’s veto will cause the legislature to draw up emergency regulations to cut some 800,000 children off the roles in California and create a waiting list.

I hope my California Republican colleagues will understand that if they don’t vote to override this veto, they are destroying healthcare for many of our children in California.

In a previous job as an actor, our governor used to play make-believe and blow things up. Well, the President and the Republicans in Congress are playing make-believe today with children’s lives. They claim we can’t afford healthcare. They say the bill will socialize medicine.

Tell that to Orin Hatch, Chuck Grassy, and Ted Stevens — those socialist on the other side of this capitol. The truth is that SCHIP program enables states to cover children primarily through PRIVATE healthcare plans.

But President Bush’s statements about children’s health shouldn’t be taken any more seriously than his lies about the war in Iraq.

The truth is, that Bush just likes to blow things up. . .in Iraq, in the United States, and in Congress.

I urge my colleagues to vote to override his veto. America’s children need and deserve healthcare despite the President’s desire to deny it to them.
