Mexican soldiers and civilian smugglers had an armed standoff with nearly 30 U.S. law enforcement officials on the Rio Grande in Texas, acording to the Texas police and the FBI. Mexican Army troops had several mounted machine guns on the ground more than 200 yards INSIDE THE U.S. BORDER (emphasis mine) about 50 miles east of El Paso. An FBI spokeswoman confirmed the incident. "People with Humvees, who appeared to be with the Mexican Army, were involved..." Citing a Jan. 15 story in the Daily Bulletin, Reps. David Dreier (R), and Duncan Hunter (R), last week asked the House Judiciary Committee, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and the House International Relations Committee to investigate the incursions. Chertoff played down the reports of border incursions by the Mexican military. But border agents have discussed confrontations with Mexican military personnel. "We're sitting ducks," said a border agent. "The government has our hands tied."

Help me out. I once thought that when a foreign military force crossed the borders and invaded the territory of a sovereign nation and fired upon its citizens that this was an act of war. Of course, it doesn't bother our president and many in Congress that we're the laughing-stock of the world - including the international terrorists.

Chertoff played down the reports of border incursions by the Mexican military. Chertoff is a idiot.

Seems to me there are specific provisions in the Constitition for dealing with a threat to the security of a free state.

According to a few posters and the date on the article it’s a year old. MSM or not, this is old news.

Should have called in an A-10 warthog and defended the border, without risking our people. A-10 makes a great equalizer when the enemy show...

This story is from last year, but the fact remains that the Mexican army could send an entire division 200 MILES into our territory and our government wouldn’t lift a finger to stop it. Instead, Congress would meet to discuss how to formulate an apology.

"it doesn't bother our president and many in Congress that we're the laughing-stock of the world"
- Border fence and border security = good.
- Thinking a border fence and border security will deter a terrorist or terror plot = dangerously wrong.
- A bizarre and absurd claim that President Bush shares the poster's notion that the USA is the laughing stock the world = vapid as BDS can be.

The invaders should have been neutralized, without hesitation and with extreme prejudice.

It’s not old news because this aftermnoon Eric Burns on Fox Roundtable cited the article. Furthermore, even if it’s ‘old’ to you, it’s not irrelevalent. The fact that you seem to be indifferent to it is one of the problems we face - people who are looking for the “latest” thrill rather than digesting what’s important. By the way, you didn’t see the correct date - but that doesn’t surprise me.
